  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

First reaction: "jeez, how is this so expensive?"
This feels like a rather generic modern sherry single cask that could be from Glendronach or wherever. It's not bad at all, in fact quite good, but it doesn't justify its price to me in any way.

    Tasted with Benromach 10yo 100° proof (85 pts.), Benromach 2006-2018 for Van Wees 59,2% (86), Benromach 2005-2014 Hermitage finish 45% (81), Benromach 30yo bot. 2011 (89) and Benromach 35yo bot. 2015 (89).
    • Nose
Lots of chocolate and some jams (apricot? apple?). The sweetest whisky in the tasting lineup (see above). Sandalwood, vanilla, and dessert cakes by the dozen. Some rum chocolates and lipstick as well. With water, it gets spicier and more drying, as if the tannins are taking over. Tobacco and peaches, wet coffee grounds, dry barley, and a bit of grass.
    • Taste
Spicy, with chocolate and lipstick, salt, leather, and butter. Water kicks up both the peat and the tannins, making it rougher and drier and not so much to my taste anymore.
    • Finish
A little too sharp for me, even with water. The sherry carries it.
