This is the oldest Springbank I have had but the Pure West Highland Malt Nas from Lochend Bar was a young one from the same period, not aged like this one.

Its easy to get carried away with a 45 year old OB Springbank and this is nice stuff but the palate is a little thin and stops it getting mega points.

Very enjoyable and I think 90-91P is fair for this.
    • Nose
Very delicate on white fruits of pear, apple and faint hints of melon, honeycomb, beeswax.

After a time in the glass some caramel notes emerge and maybe, just maybe there is a little peat in the mix and perhaps brine like a faint old Caol Ila that has been watered down.

Some rich biscuit notes after a few minutes and finally some recognisable Springbank profile along with toffee popcorn.
    • Taste
Nice initial taste considering its 40% but its a little thin in the beginning but it seems to get fatter in the mouth. Sweet butterscotch, honey, a little marzipan, clotted cream, Turkish Delight,  little milk chocolate, sweet yellow plum.

Gets more substantial on the palate and fruitier too.
    • Finish
Medium length, pleasantly sweet with some caramel, honey & apple/plum at the end
