  1. alectron scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

This works much better if given (a lot of) time, or in a tasting after other sherry heavy whiskys to break in the palate. On a fresh palate I find this way too dry, even bitter, and sulphury.
Had vastly different scores on different occasions, depending on how this was handled & where it was in the tasting line up.
    • Nose
First of: wine-y, musty, old socks, (rotting) apples, raisins, swamp-plants (wet earth/swamp-ish and some plant material), also a faint perfumey note int he back (86)
Later: more towards sherry, meat, pepper, honey, earth, cotton/textile/clothes. (86)
    • Taste
woody, thick sherry, turning very tannin-y/bitter on a fresh palate, also a bit of sulphur (matchstick & burnt bgunpowder) sticking out  (78)
Later/After other whiskies: wood/tannin dryness is less extreme & a very elegant taste comes through (86)
    • Finish
more sherry & woody dryness, some charred wood o, more of the sulphur (matchstick & burnt bunpowder), (80) occasionally very nice notes of honeycomb wax at the very end.
Later/After other whiskies: wood dryness less extreme (84)
