Quite good, but not very remarkable. Nose is good although pretty short in a matter.
    • Nose

Sweet smoke, tobacco, ash, fruit, tropical fruits to be specific, and citrus. The aroma's disappear quite fast actually.
    • Taste
      82 82
Soft and smooth, light smoke, sweet, pretty weak and pale taste. Peach.
    • Finish
      83 83
Light pepper now, sweet. Light smoke, some peach, a little fruitiness, ash. Middle long. Later on it gets a little more power.

Notes for the 2018 edition (currently not in the database, but I've uploaded the bottle). A very well made, decent whisky, well balanced and to the point. Perhaps not the most complex or spectacular BenRiach, but it's rather flawless and a solid malternative for a peated Islay, as it is not unsimilar to say, Bowmore Tempest.
    • Nose

Peaty on the nose, with some soft smoke joining in. Some ripe fruit (apple, apricot, sweet pear) with a hint of nutty spices in the background.
After adding a wee drop of water, I picked up some mintiness
    • Taste
      84 84
the nose continuous, but it's more integrated, a well balanced amalgamation of the different notes I picked up in the nose.
With a drop of water the taste becomes drier and a bit ashy.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium long, peat and smoke. Softly fading on a dry note. With water the finish becomes softer, less dry and a bit more fruity.

It is nice, peated whisky. No Caol Ila or Ardbeg, but a nice whisky. Could also serve as an introduction to peated whisky, or as an introduction on non Islay/Island peated whiskies as I just did for my mother
