  1. Syleo scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Tamdhu is more familiar with sherry-aged barrels than bourbon hogsheads, so I was all the more curious about this 20-year-old. I'm not sure what I expected from the Tamdhu Bourbon Hogshead, but it wasn't such a hearty sweetness and fruit - I like it.
    • Nose
      87 87
Restrained in color with light straw or gold in the sunshine, only very shy droplets develop in the glass, which like serrated shark teeth initially hardly want to detach from the liquid rim.
The Speysider caresses the nose with sweet sugar, with honey, apple juice, canned peaches, light fudge, vanilla biscuits and oatmeal cookies, which are accompanied by some light grapes and raisins. A dash of lemon seems to be suspect, or mint and grapefruit, with undefined herbal notes and floral geranium.
    • Taste
      86 86
The first impression on the tongue is intensely bitter, but only for a fraction of a second, then here too the sweetness overtakes on the right without consideration and takes the lead unchallenged, while the now clearly noticeable 54 percent make their rounds in the mouth. Grapes and peaches, candied fruit and the honey on a wooden spoon - the only inconspicuous wood appeal by the way. Vanilla, grated almonds, chewed cereal grains and flour awaken the vanilla biscuits again.
    • Finish
      87 87
The medium-long, pleasantly intense finish is primarily fruity, the nutty, floury and vanilla impressions combine in a collective memory of my mother's Königsberg marzipan, filled with jelly fruits in icing.
