My last 10yo, 17/287 from 06/27/17, gave me fun in the glass for the entire duration of the bottle, he is only marginally "younger", 17/328 from 08/01/17, and plays in the same league, comes to me even a little bit better. With the 10yo, I am always surprised and delighted to see how you can bundle the entire characteristics of a distillery in such a successful way.
    • Nose
Freshly cut tangerine, oranges, pineapple, red apple: an extremely tasty and inviting basket of fruit, almost a must from the smell impression. Looks creamy and viscous on the nose. The character of the distillery comes through clearly, this beautiful mineral note, which is reminiscent of damp pebbles. Mild curry spice, turmeric, salt - the interplay of fruity and spicy is what characterizes the nose of the 10yo so successfully.
    • Taste
Creamy and pleasantly strong start. Salted tangerine slices, orange juice, pineapple pieces, apple sauce. The fruitiness is captured by curry, cardamom, pepper and the mineral note. Salt water on pebble. Becomes chocolatey over time, nougat and toffee appear, cocoa, milk coffee. But do not lose the spicy fruitiness.
    • Finish
Sounds a long time with its fruits, spices, with the chocolate note that appears at the end. Gets a little dry, you might even suspect a trace of smoke.

At the beginning, a certain freshness. Then the nose comes into place, vanilla, lime, orange blossom. And of course that smell of hay, of stable, but it is so clear, so smooth, that it goes very well, I would even say that there is something pastry, gourmet, like speculoos cream , with pieces of sponge cake. Behind, an ounce of sherry, with dried banana, currants, brown sugar. A little iodine and peat. Egg yolk. Dry earth, a day of great sun.
In the mouth, vanilla and lime come knocking on the door, quite oriental spices, a hint of raspberry, coarse salt, a little citrus at the end, perhaps some exotic fruits. Very good finish, oily and minty, long and vegetal, green tea, spices found in Indian restaurants in retro-olfaction. Pistachios, sweet olives. I really like, it's a classic.

After Serge gave this new bottling an incredible 92 points it was an easy next purchase. Expectations were high to say the least!

On the nose the peat character is clear and pleasurable, more on the brine-y, medicinal side. However it does not bombard the senses like a typical, heavily peated whisky. There is also a wonderful mustiness, that just works here. Besides that is a clear, bright fruitiness; the ones that spring to mind are pink grapefruit and juicy pear. Serge mentions some (enjoyable!) plasticine also, which I would not have found without prompting. With water: everything becomes much more subdued, it is better to nose neat. So far so good.

Taste: Without water I find it a little too sharp on the palate... With water: begins with a waxy, musty, minerally arrival, followed by dark(?) lemon and herb flavours.

Finish: that lemon keeps on going, alongside a faint touch of smoke. Excellent.

    Undoubtedly a BFYB champion.

A good Springbank and harbinger of the wider range
    • Nose
      Fresh. Citrus. Oak
    • Taste
Liquorice or anise. Oak. Almond. Full-bodied. Slightly sweet.
    • Finish
Oak stays in the mouth. Dry and sweet oak

A great beginner who came to me just after opening the bottle a little alcoholic, but with time was rounder, without losing the jumping Bank's own roughness, great Einsteigermalt that you can safely put on the shelf, if you like Springbank
    • Nose
Hay, light smoke, salty citrus fruits, a little vanilla, light alcohol note
    • Taste
Vanilla sweetness, fresh green apples, oak, dirty maritime notes, light smoke
    • Finish
Caramelised oranges, dry oak, here also the smoke is most evident

Surprisingly different than the older label bottlings. I was skeptic at first after the hype that started with Serge's review. But this actually is really, really good. The tropical fruit really differentiates this from the older bottlings. I love it.
    • Nose
A lot of tropical fruit. Very much more than the previous bottling with the older labels. Also, the typical dunnage warehouse, earthy, salty SB tones, also some peat in the background. Amazing nose
    • Taste
Lovely tropical fruits, salt, earth, oily, some chocolate
    • Finish
Medium long, not bitter, not drying. Waves of peaty fruit slowly die on the back of the tongue.

    Nose:

This is much better then the older Springbank 10's, very much like Bowmore 2001 vintages. Tropical fruit, peat and some dried fruit from the sherry casks.

    Taste:

Very nice, oily, again very fruity and peated

    Finish:

Not very long, but quiet complex for a 10y old.

    Total score:

    90, 90, 90

    Very nice
