What is A Highland Distillery?

“A Highland Distillery” is bottler shorthand for whisky distilled somewhere in the Highland region where the actual distillery name isn’t disclosed—commonly because the Scotch Whisky Regulations restrict using a distillery’s name as a brand (or in branding) unless the whisky was wholly distilled there, and prohibit any labelling likely to mislead about the true distillery. “Highland” itself is a protected Scotch whisky region, so the regional term can appear only when the spirit was distilled in that region.

On Whiskybase, “A Highland Distillery” is used as a brand label grouping these undisclosed-origin releases and Uncharted Whisky’s “A Highland Distillery 22yo.” Searching under this brand returns a variety of Highland single malts from different bottlers.
