What is Tennessee Whisky?

Tennessee whisky is defined in Tennessee law: to use “Tennessee Whiskey/Whisky” on the label, the spirit must be made in Tennessee, from a mash ≥51% corn, distilled ≤160 proof, entered into new charred oak ≤125 proof, bottled ≥80 proof, aged in new charred oak in Tennessee, and filtered through maple charcoal prior to aging (Lincoln County Process)—with a narrow statutory exemption for one distillery (Prichard’s). Many producers spell it “whisky” without the “e”, but it’s the same legally recognized style.

On Whiskybase, “Tennessee Whisky” is used as a brand label that groups these releases across bottlers. See the dedicated Tennessee Whisky brand page and example bottles such as George Dickel Original Tennessee Whisky and independent bottlings titled simply “Tennessee Whisky 18-year-old” (Cadenhead’s). Searching under this brand returns a variety of entries rather than one proprietary line.
