About whiskydramo:

Drinking, Fast and Slow...

The distribution of whisky scores tends to be negatively skewed and concentrated between 85 and 90pts. Below is the scale I'm using by trying to follow the "unwritten rules":

  • ≥95: Legendary and it's rare for modern releases.

  • 90-94: Excellent, will secure a bottle for a reasonable price, actually even with a small markup.

  • 88-89: Good, will buy one if it's at discount vs market price.

  • 86-87: Not too bad, but waste of space at home.

  • ≤85: Spit it, the damage to your body outweighs the joy... Also my scores below 85 won't be as granular, let me know if you care.

As a rule, I never add water when judging a whisky. Some whiskies could taste much better with water because they young and over-mentholated, but this practice is not fair to the others that don't need water to perform.
