It all started in the 1990's whilst reading the DCI Banks series of Peter Robinson - a classic Laphroaig being the signature drink of this fictive character. To accompany reading I bought my first bottle of Laphroaig - containing a small leaflet offering a squarefoot of land on the island of Islay for lifetime - registred as a Friend of Laphroaig since then (Plot Number 91.166). Unfortunately (or better: luckily!) the rent paid by Laphroaig - as we all know - has to be collected in person during a visit of the distillery. Which, knowing very little about Islay, the Ileachs or the Whisky, brought me there in May 2002...
Since those days I have fallen into love with the island and am a drinker and collector of all the varietes of whiskies the island has on offer. Nowadays focusing more on limited releases or even single casks with a bit more enthusiasm on less sought after distilleries such as Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain - but not shying away from very popular brands such as Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin or Bowmore.
Am based in Hamburg and Frankfurt and am always happy to share a few drams with similar enthusiasts. Am travelling to the island probably 2 or 3 times a year - happy to also join forces for any of these trips...
