Vom Laien zum Liebhaber – meine Whiskyreise

Mein Weg zum Whisky begann unerwartet – und lange, bevor ich wusste, dass er begonnen hatte. Zu meiner Geburt brachte mein Götti meiner Mutter eine Flasche Whisky mit. Nicht zum Trinken, sondern eher als kurioses Geschenk. Und diese „Tradition“ setzte er fort: Weihnachten, Geburtstage, besondere Anlässe – immer wieder brachte er ihr eine Flasche mit. Für mich war das damals eine rätselhafte, ungenießbare Substanz. Und ich ahnte nicht, dass sich im Hintergrund eine kleine Sammlung entwickelte.

Erst zu meinem 33. Geburtstag offenbarte sich das Geheimnis: Nach seinem Tod überreichte mir meine Mutter – in seinem Namen – seine Sammlung. Über 350 Flaschen, gesammelt über Jahrzehnte. Ein Erbe, das mehr war als nur Glas und Flüssigkeit. Es war Geschichte, Erinnerung, Verbindung.

Seitdem bin ich dem Sammeln treu geblieben – mit einem Unterschied: Ich öffne die Flaschen. Ich koste, genieße, teile. Ich tausche, schenke weiter. Nur verkaufen? Das interessiert mich nicht.

Heute genieße ich gemeinsam mit Freunden besondere Tropfen, erzähle ihre Geschichten und stoße auf die Vergangenheit und Gegenwart an.

From Novice to Whisky Lover – My Journey

My whisky journey began long before I realized it had. When I was born, my godfather brought my mother a bottle of whisky—not to drink, but more as a curious gift. He continued this ritual for years: Christmases, birthdays, family celebrations—always another bottle. For me, whisky was just a mysterious, undrinkable liquid. I had no idea a quiet collection was growing in the background.

Then, on my 33rd birthday, the story took a turn. After his passing, my mother handed me his collection—over 350 bottles—gifted in his name. It wasn’t just whisky; it was a legacy, a memory, a connection passed down through time.

Since then, I’ve remained loyal to collecting—but with one key difference: I open the bottles. I taste, enjoy, and share them. I give some away, trade others. Selling? Still not interested.

Today, I enjoy rare drams with good friends, sharing not just the whisky, but the stories behind every bottle.
