1037-LAGAVULIN 1994 (16 yo) DISTILLERS EDITION 2010 SPECIAL RELEASE lgv.4/498 ISLAY SINGLE MALT SCOTCH Whisky 43%
...if there's anyone who doesn't feel the Islay vibe, especially the distillates released under the name "Lagavulin," then...then avoid this bottle. However, for those who sense all sorts of aromas, hints of the dark side of the force—asphalt, a hospital on fire, bandages, iodine, rubber, peat, swamp, and what have you...then I recommend it.
    • Nose
...sweet smoke (that's what I like). Then lots of sea, nets, ropes, lubricants. It might sound strange, but in Lagi's case – a charming aroma. Intense, but not enough to drown out everything else in the goblets. I'll check the empty one – campfire embers, or rather burnt fat falling onto glowing coals. Kilograms of iodine… or maybe liters. Seaweed, marsh plants. I go back to the full one – (a lot of time has passed) – the liquid has softened and revealed some fruit. Very dark chocolate, and served hot with a pinch of salt. Dark cherries, wrinkled from alcohol. Candied orange segments. California plum. It's so good, I don't even want to go on.
    • Taste
...the first impression is that the liquid is mild, because the voltage isn't too high. After a while, we get a rather strong combination of sweetish, smoky peat, bitter, burnt grilled fruit, burnt spices, starting with thyme, sage, rosemary, and a sprig of peppermint. Somewhere in the undertones, there's a taste of grilled shrimp. On the second try, it's hard to call it sweet, as it recedes. The bitterness of burnt, strong espresso stands out, slightly bitter and acidic. There's licorice, anise, and fennel. Quite unobvious, complex, and drinkable—provided you enjoy that kind of atmosphere.
    • Finish
...long, burnt, oily, leaning towards Lysol, iodine. Slightly spicy.
