About Stauning Whisky Distillery

Stauning Whisky, founded in 2005 by a group of nine Danish whisky enthusiasts, is Denmark’s oldest active whisky distillery, rooted in traditional, locally sourced, floor‑malted barley and rye processed using direct‑fire pot stills.

Stauning Whisky is founded by 9 friends in May 2005 with the intention of producing single malt whisky on a hobby level.

2005

First single malt released

The first bottles of Stauning single malt, namely the Peated - 1st Edition and the Traditional - 1st Edition, are released.

2012

Stauning Whisky Festival 2018

For the first time we open the doors to our new buildings to the public. Come and see our amazing new distillery and spend the day with music, food and drinks at Stauning Whisky.

2018

Award at World Whiskies Awards

Award for world's best new make.

Award for Danish best new make.

Award for Danish best single malt.

Award for Danish best rye whisky.

2019

First release
The Stauning Rye - First Impression is released on 22nd of March 2011, marking the first bottling to be released by Stauning Whisky. It is a 70% malted rye / 30% malted barley new make, aged between 1 and 2 years in New American Oak casks.

2011

Diageo invests 14 mil. €
In December 2015, Diageo announces an investment of 100 million DKK (~14 million €) in Stauning Whisky through Distill Ventures, a Diageo owned-and-funded accelerator for young distilleries. The investment goes towards a new distillery with a capacity of 900 000 L new make/year (630.000 LPA).

2015

We have now distilled for the last time on the old distillery. On the first day, our old Master Distiller, Mogens Vesterby passed by, and on the second day it was Herluf, who turned off the gas for the last time. Herluf has been distilling at Stauning Whisky for over 8 years. We finished all day with a common bowl in the heart from the little spirit still.

From now on, the distillation will take place in the new buildings, which we look forward to very much!
