Hi there! I am a newbie into whisk(e)y from China.
Marks are for time-saving, process-neglecting quantification, but the notes and the experiences are the real money. The other way I make myself "enjoying" whisky without drinking them is to understand how it was produced.
One shall never be satisfied with bottles that are known to be good, but keep exploring the infinite possiblities. Finding a hidden gem of reasonable price and being suprised at how it tastes is the happiest thing in my whisky journey, instead of applying the cliche, the bias on the distillery/age/cask.
Bottles/styles that bring me joy: high-proof Cragganmore, mid 2000s Ledaig, Laphroaig (pre-96 distillation, preferably pre-94 bottlings), Lagavulin (pre-91 distillation), Ord (70s distillation, high proof) and pre-80 sherried malts (preferably from direct-fired stills with downward lyne arms...)
