    COLOR light amber

    - solid young single malt, but not very spectacular, no special aromas, no specific direction, makes better 10 year old whiskys, good average,
    - for 30€ rather not my cup of tea, my choice falls more on others
    • Nose
slightly malty, fresh, floral, smokeless, [
    • Taste
Youth and spiciness still clearly noticeable, subtle alcohol note, no intense or complex aromas, oak
    • Finish
short, neutral finish ; an alcoholic note remains in the aftertaste, malty sweetish touch on the tongue

    Not my type of whisky!

  3. Dutchdram scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      83 83
It begins a bit burnt/roasted and grainy like notes of malt, dry wood chips and walnuts. A little bit sweeter now. Notes of red apples followed by coffee-ish notes of cappucino and cacao powder.
    • Taste
      84 84
Again a bit burnt; roasted grains to start with complemented by dry and oily nuts. And also in the palate more coffee-ish notes like dark chocolate, moccha and coffee candies. Some pears and beeswax at the end.
    • Finish
      80 80
Quiet short. Again some more malt with toffee and a light hint of orchard fruit.

Nice to thank for the sample, but this no longer! ..
    • Nose
The aroma is very subtle - they feel heavy floral and light fruit tones (peaches), honey, malt, but nothing overall significant. A lot of mild mint in the background
    • Taste
Prim plays a woody flavor, spiciness, and maybe somewhere in the background a bitter chocolate. The flavor is subtle in general, except for the spice - generally as faint as the smell.
    • Finish
In reverberation again, woodiness, spiciness and bitter chocolate - as it sounds unpleasant, is long on the other.

  6. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

The Glengoyne beginner does not do much wrong and delivers what you expect.
    • Nose
Honey sweet, peach, some oak, vanilla, also some caramel, slightly mint and some malt
    • Taste
Sweet, peach, mild, caramel, vanilla, slightly alcoholic, bitter oak, overall lacks the force
    • Finish
sweet, peach, becomes drier with time, on the palate remains the peachy

To me, this fits into the exact same class as your standard Glenlivet or Glenfiddich 12 yo, though it's more similar to the Glenlivet in its more honied/vanilla taste as opposed to the fruitiness of Glenfiddich.

So if you see it, go for it, but it's not something you need to go searching for.

This Glengoyne is strong gold-yellow therefore. The aroma is characterized by sweet fruits. Clearly there are pears, apples and raspberries to smell. In addition, there are still caramel and chocolate notes. In taste, the sweet fruits are back, but not so pronounced. Add to that the notes of bitter chocolate and vanilla. There is also a slightly peppery nuance. The finish is reminiscent of a noble fruit brandy.
A delicious whisky with an amazing variety in aroma and flavor, especially for a 10 year old whisky.

    A nice Allday dram.
    • Nose
Creamy toffee, lots of caramel and noticeable vanilla. Sweet and sour green apple behind.
    • Taste
Sweet at first, the apple again, then spicy malt.
    • Finish
Warm and with a bit of malt, comparatively short.

I managed to find some kind of vegemite on the nose which really spoiled for me. Great long and sweet finish, but can`t get beyond the vegemite.

Unlike most other single malts Glengoyne has been

preserving the essence of its flavour for decades by using air-dried barley

rather than barley dried using harsh peat smoke. The result is a more subtle,

complex whisky in which all of the delicate flavours are freely allowed to

    express themselves.www.glengoyne.com

Nice introduction to Glengoyne range, but too sweet and too light
    • Nose
A fresh but very soft, warm fruitiness, with rich malty dryness, very light sherry, and a touch of juicy oak
    • Taste
Clean, grassy, fruity, with more apple notes, tasty, very pleasant
    • Finish
Still sweet, but drying slightly, clean, appetizing

I must admit, this is not all bad. But the nose and the very initial flavor in the taste really didn't do it for me. I feel like I'm not going to remember this for very long, too bad. Also a good candidate for starters, but beware of that nose!
    • Nose
Wow, that wasn't expected. There's a clear sour note, almost like vinegar or some kind of cleaning product that's really putting me off. Takes me a long time to get anything else but I guess eventually there's some fruit and vanilla or toffee going on, but this is simply not impressive.
    • Taste
The sourness is still there, but after a while a respectable dram arises. Thank goodness. Very malty but also something that reminds me of rye. If I didn't know any better I could think there's some grain whisky in here. There's a denseness to this, a slight oily mouth feel, which makes it more enjoyable than first expected. The sweetness can now be described as honey and the sour note is quickly forgotten.
    • Finish
Medium. The honey remains, like the last drop taken from a jar. A slight punch on the tongue, like a tiny corn of pepper. Very, very malty indeed, some serious barley going on here.

This is a good daily drink of Whisky
    • Nose
Apple and sherry with a hint of oak
    • Taste
Soft and delicate with hints of apple and oak
    • Finish
      Fruity

  19. Feusi scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Quite a friendly whisky, light and sweet, the finish rather short and also sweet. Quiet and nothing exceptional, perhaps a bit rough.

  20. Lafroy scored this whisky 68 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Nose gives the sense of fruits, classic
notes, some apples, flowers, something sweet but dominated by cheep and
      unpleasant spirit.
    • Taste
Delicate, fruity, oaky, but definitely too
young and flat, too much water made it poor in flavors.
    • Finish
Rather short, classic, oaky, watery and a
      little fruity.

  21. Quaker scored this whisky 78 points Member Senior

A whisky with an interesting nose but very (too) homogeneous and soulless once in the mouth.
    • Nose
Floral but on the green flowers lily-of-the-valley, heather and also a little woody. We are on the greenery and the woods: hay, fir, dried leaves, resin ... We also have some salted butter caramel.
    • Taste
Mouth light and very round, not aggressive except during the attack. I think of neutral cereals like oatmeal. A little woody side also and nuts.
    • Finish
      Pretty flat.

A nice malt but i have had a lot better. Reminded me of Auchentoshan. This was another xmas presant off my wife x
    • Nose
Took me a while but i did get rum rasin chocolate and toffee.
    • Taste
Full bodied, very oily on the glass which is unusual for 40% and smooth with oak and smoke.
    • Finish
Just a medium finish, expected a lot more.

  23. CrilleVBG scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

It's only 40%, but it's so strong of alcohol. And the flavors are only oak..
    • Nose
Strong nose, tingling nose feeling, from the %. Malty, oaky and vanilla.
    • Taste
Oak and a hint of fruits. But a little tasteless.
    • Finish
Medium long finish, with only oak flavors.

  24. Robjohnston scored this whisky 90 points Member Junior

Quite nice has a long finish that lingers.
    • Nose
      toffee, floral, apple
    • Taste
      Sweet
    • Finish
Very slight smoke, there is a slight apple flavour that lingers
