  1. Lorion scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

The nose is too violent at first, but then becomes really great. On the palate, the whisky is just too one-dimensionally smoky. It gets a little better with water. Too bad. The nose had raised high hopes. 84 points.
    • Nose
"Cool, fresh smoke. After so many Octomore bottlings are not as badly smoky as the PPM content might suggest, I'm almost surprised here. This whisky is relentlessly smoky. And the cask strength also comes through clearly The smoke is cold and goes into the medical. There is a subtle sweetness. It takes a while until the smoke loses the medical and there is some space for the burning wood. The sweetness is still heavy, but is slowly becoming clearer and stronger. Honey crystallizes slowly coming out. Now there are also bright, ripe fruits. Mild and sweet apples. Grapes. How incredibly good time this whisky does! Stable aromas develop that soon fade into the background. The sweetness becomes even more intense. Herbs come along with mild citrus flavors.

Water: even more fruits. Kiwi, gooseberry, orange. Great!"
    • Taste
"Sweet. And very powerful. Dominant smoke, burning logs. Churned ashes. Charcoal. Sweet and sooty apple peels. Not too acidic grapefruit. After swallowing, a very ashy and earthy-dry taste develops. The smoke goes bitter. That is a bit too violent for me. The wine barrel just falls short on the palate.

Water: Much sweeter. The honey is there. The smoke behaves cautiously the first time, but comes quickly rolled up from behind. Again it is ashes that remain in the mouth. "
    • Finish
Medium length and very smoky. Bitter. The finish is sweeter with water and the bitterness is barely there.
