Quite similar to the 10 y.o. "Tempest", though this is milder, fruitier, more settled and – in my opinion – a more enjoyable drinking experience.

Seems to have caught a lot of flak upon release due to the exaggerated price and lack of an age statement, but in 2022 this is pretty well priced around 70 € and a definite buy for me, since it has that lovely exotic fruitiness that you can typically find in late-90s and early-2000s Bowmore.
    • Nose
      88 88
Typical musty, dry, and ashy Bowmore smoke, with a faint floral aspect (did they use the opportunity to dump some of that infamous 80s liquid into the vatting?), but also a bright, fruity side, some creamy first-fill bourbon vanilla, and indeed a big sea-spray saltiness / maritime quality. Though it doesn't bear an age statement, you don't feel that it contains any inappropriately young spirit. Quite the opposite: there is zero alcoholic burn, and the nose appears rather settled and well-matured. I daresay the majority of the liquid in here must be well over ten years of age. The median age should probably be somewhere around 15 years, by my estimate.
    • Taste
      90 90
The fruits are there from the get-go: mango, peach and papaya, perhaps. Along with the ex-bourbon influence, you get a rather big honey-and-vanilla-custard sweetness, but it's wrapped up in (and counterbalanced by) tart, ashy, charcoal-like peat smoke. And salt, of course. Lots of it, actually —the name is justified. I find this exercise in pure distillery DNA a delight after all these countless sherry-drenched Bowmore OBs.
    • Finish
      88 88
Tropical fruit, violet candies, runny honey, rosemary, camphor, olive oil, a splash of lemon, and a indeed more than sprinkling of sea salt. Very long.
