Just a quick note because I'm spontaneously very positively surprised.
I wish this whiskey (bottled 2016) would be tested blind by members who give a 70 rating here.
I think this is a very solid dram and a blind buy for the money - I'll try to get hold of this slightly older bottling.

This is worth much more to me as a pleasure whiskey and offers me more pleasure than a non-round 10-year-old single cask with 62 percent.

Hmm, I wouldn't have blindly guessed that this is a blend with 100 percent certainty - it could also have been a diluted single cask - and grain is actually not to be found here either, because it is a vatted malt, so it's just consists of whiskey with malted grains (esp. Cragganmore, Talisker, Caol Ila and Linkwood).

Comparatively complex for 35 euros, as there are simple but not too weak aromas of sherry, smoke, vanilla and wood.
Everything in a - for these conditions - perfect balance.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sure, on the palate it goes down one or two points, but not more.
Still more intensity than some standards with 40 percent and 10 years.
The palate suggests more of a blend; at least it becomes clear here that it cannot be a down-diluted single cask. It is too smooth for that, but the comparatively diverse aromas of the nose are transferred to the palate.
    • Finish
      84 84
The mouthfeel is very good for the key data. Minimally oily and a bit waxy, really good alcohol for the price and the finish is almost medium - definitely not totally volatile.
