  1. St. Pauli Plus scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Quality bottling, especially considering the age. The introduction price of ca. € 50 for a 3 yo may seem much, but it's at cask strength. I am lucky to have a bottle.

If you drink it, I advise you to give it enough time and to add a few drops of water.
    • Nose
Initially: combination of new spirit, prunes and raisins, honey, sugar and salty peat. After settling, notes of mocha and milk chocolate arrive, and the fruit notes tend to become more on prunes and stewed cherries. It's all better integrated now. There is a slight nuttiness of almond. Strangely, the raisins return a while later. Doesn't matter, the fruitiness is rather on the sweet, dried/stewed side, but gets an extra layer of sweet/sour Dutch "applestroop". The peat gets more silent, but is still there on the background.

Adding water helps to bring out the flavors, especially the salty peat and sweet/sour appelstroop.
    • Taste
Peaty, sweet and sour, getting dry also, quite punchy, on chocolate, stewed fruits, peat and honey, almonds and chili.

With water, it's more balanced, and with an additional element: mocha.
    • Finish
The finish is lingering, where the degree of acidity is perfect. It's still quite hot from the alcohol, warming from the peat and sweet fruits. The chillies bring a level of dryness which is close to the edge for me.

With water, it's certainly within bounds and more harmonized.
