Another tasty Bowmore. I’m really enjoying these woodsy tea notes. There's plenty of nice sherry notes, but this does seem to come at the cost of the peat, though, as there really isn’t a whole lot of smoke going on. It’s also got a bit of a lighter texture than I expected. Overall, a very worthwhile experience. My experience with Bowmore IBs has turned me into Bowmore fan, which is something I would have never expected to say after trying all those distillery bottlings.
    • Nose
Sweet-and-sour. Musty, savoury sherry, honey, toffee, plums, orange, apple cider vinegar, cedar, old leather, and wooden furniture. Chocolate ganache with raspberries. The smoke emerges slowly, and is quite subtle: cumin, applewood chips, and subtle roasted meat.
A long rest in the glass and there’s more sherry: juicy orange, Swedish Berries, fried bananas, lemon tarts, and black licorice. Green tea, heather, and caramel, too. A hint of something maritime.
A dribble of water brought out rich raisin and brioche sweetness.
    • Taste
Medium texture. Sweet honey and some brine at first, then a blast of piney peat smoke. Darjeeling tea, developing into lapsang souchong. Blueberries and blackberries. Lots of pine, mint, melon, and tropical fruit, then another hit of smoke. Black pepper and a hint of seaweed.
With the water, the raisins aren’t intense like in the nose, but now there’s a pronounced chocolatey note towards the back.
    • Finish
Sweet and herbal. More Darjeeling tea and blueberries. Sea buckthorn! That’s a new one. Some black licorice, turning to smoked fish, green wood, and earth. Lots of honey, with light-ish sherry fruit, cinnamon, and cedar.
