  1. Gaija scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Seriously, I guess such weird combination at such young age couldn't have been much better than this. Should lack of coherency and obvious youth be no problems, I could see myself scoring this 90, just because it is a very respectable take on a dangerous exercise : intense peat + sweet wine. But well, it's young, it's kinda predictible, and its partly an internal fight at times, though it could have been much worse. So, 88 it is.

Apricot syrup, but not cloying, quite nice actually. Trademark vegetal peat afgerwards, but very much in the background : this is no peat monster at all on the nose ! Quite some alcohol and obvious youth but developing nice notes of orange blossom (as often with Sauternes), honey, orange-flavoured gingerbread. It keeps developing but staying relatively classy, not cloying (less so than Kilchoman Sauternes for example, which is more heavy on the wine, though general profiles are totally comparable). Peated Cointreau, turkish pastries (baklava, ...), wet sand. Always this vegetal peat, almost agave-like. Good, but a tad hot at times and clearly young. Predictible in its aromatic field (I remember using many of the same descriptors for Kilchoman Sauternes).
    • Taste
      88 88
The first split second is luminous and juicy, then immediately afterwards a massive crescendo of ashy peat and biting alcohol explodes, coming back in impressive waves afterwards. Burnt papers, wet sand, massive ashy peat, and in between theses bombastic flashes, some room for rice pie, old-style macarons, orangette. This dynamic of successive peat waves is actually very fun and quite original ! Smoked honeys aplenty, light meaty touches (honey-glazed pork maybe ?).
    • Finish
      88 88
Long, coherent, on wet sand, Calisson d'Aix big time (similar to Kilchoman Sauternes again), sweet and smoky orange blossom. Sweet and ashy peat lingers.
