A stunningly beautiful nose on this BenRiach ‘76—but sadly, the palate is a bit too woody; otherwise, this could’ve been a 93-point whisky. Fans of Ben Nevis ‘96 will very likely enjoy the nose here—it shares that same style and also demands a very long time to open up (side note: Samaroli glasses really do speed up the airing process). Value for money is extremely low, honestly a lot of Ben Nevis ‘96s are better than this one for a fraction of the price.

After over an hour of breathing, it’s a perfect fusion of florals and yellow fruits. Right after pouring, you get wave after wave of layered yellow fruit—both fresh and stewed—especially pineapple, along with some guava. Surprisingly, there’s quite a bit of alcohol and a touch of smoke at first (both disappear with time), which made it feel surprisingly youthful. Later, tart lemon peel and a hint of boiled coconut appear—very Piña Colada-like. After 45 minutes, beautiful floral notes emerge, plus honey, vanilla, and some fermented fruit.

Not as sweet as expected. Drinks like it’s under 45% ABV, with a slightly thin, low-oil, and simple texture—very creamy though. There’s some yellow fruit jam and pomelo, along with lots of aged oak and woody spices, plus some fruit candy. Later, prominent notes of tobacco and Pu-erh tea come through—this clearly tastes like a well-aged whisky.

Very long and dry overall, with moderate intensity. Dominated by woody notes, plus plenty of Pu-erh and tobacco, and some toasted coconut. Long after the sip, a pleasant lingering wood bitterness and coconut sweetness remain.
