Whisky Reviews for Tullibardine 1990 DR

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 82.10 points

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

For me this Tullibardine is not as bad as Ruben's judgement, but it's not very well balanced whisky, with an emphasis on pine and spearmint.
    • Nose
Starts flowery and leafy. Malty and yeasty notes as well. Cut grass. Hints of dried coconut and banana. Gooseberries.
    • Taste
'Green' synthetic associations I had with previous Tullibardine too. Quite herbal. Nettle soup. Green tea. New wood (though it's 18 years old). Truck loads of pine and menthol. Extreme clean and clear.
    • Finish
Medium long. Hot spices of white pepper and nutmeg. Eucalyptus. Nervous whisky.

    Tullibardine 18 yo 1990 (59,1%, A.D. Rattray 2009, bourbon cask #6105, 300 btl.)

Nose: slightly sharp but overall pretty easy, with malty notes, fruity notes (gooseberries, apple, pear) and a slightly grassy / oaky edge. Some orange essence and vanilla. White flowers. Quite mellow if not for the yeasty note in the background. Mouth: rather oily. A slightly strange combination of synthetic fruits (apple / peach), waxy notes and violets / potpourri. Also a peppery heat that’s a bit too heavy. Then lots of grasses, liquorice and young oak, leading to a bitter aftertaste. Finish: medium long, sourish and bitter with the same heat as in the mouth.

No no no, don’t let this waste your time. Around € 60. Guess what, it’s still available.

    Score: 75/100

    • Nose
malty - grains and rye, weissbeer, citrus, some wax and chocolate

with water more spices - cloves
    • Taste
fruity, vanilla, again waxy and grains
    • Finish
oily, bitter fruits, vanilla and later some wine gums

  4. Igor scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Floury, cold cereal, hematogen, cherry-plum, grassy overtone, dust, caramelized nuts, praline.
    • Taste
Mellow, slightly biting, herbaceous, figs, milk chocolate, glazed doughnuts, custard cream biscuits, condensed milk.
    • Finish
Long. Acidic note, plants, sorrel, green tea, tannic, unripe apricots, grapefruit, bitter mandarins.

  5. magic_slim scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

The first time I tasted this Tuliibardine was in a local pub in my hometown and I did not like it at all (69 points). In the meantime I tasted it at home two days in a row and liked it much better.
    • Nose
Warming with fruity and vanilla aromas being my first impression. Some kind of artificial fruityness with additional varnish, new wood and also yeast. Flowery notes (Lavender) in the background.
    • Taste
Warming, very spicy and a fruit bomb. The spicy element could be jalapenos. The fruit bomb is made of grinded apples, mangos, peaches and concentrated tangerine Tri Top fruit sirup. Vanilla aroma as well.
    • Finish
Long and satisfying with the Tri Top fruit sirup lingering on and on. Still hot and spicy with more jalapenos. A little bitter towards the end.
