it reads like it should not work but it does work pretty well indeed. Some quibbles in places but taken as a whole this is very decent indeed
    • Nose

some spikiness due to alcohol but a pleasant green apple, with some spicy warmth.
    • Taste

confounding expectations this is very soft in the mouth - lovely and syrupy - the alcohol does not offend
    • Finish

medium; some dryness and a touch of wood and polish here but also some hogshead menthol heat. Quite medicinal here (but not necessarily in a good Laphroaig-type way), TCP and bandages

Must be quite young, the opposite of good balance, but not uninteresting and overall not untasty.

    Notes from a blind tasting.

OK, I had estimated him to be 6-8 years old, I wouldn't have expected him to be 11 now. Probably wasn't such a great barrel. However, I would have placed it in the Highlands.

Immediately after pouring, he is already full on the nose. Strong acid yellow fruit, cardboard box and malt candy. After just a few seconds, the fruits take over completely, tangerines, green apples and preserved apricots, plus some caramel. Later cake batter, intense, overripe pears and again and again hints of minerals or the cardboard box. However, the presence decreases significantly, it closes, doesn't open. After standing for an hour, it initially looks completely different. No fruit, but a huge load of dark, caramel sweetness. Roasted marshmallows, cotton candy, Bavarian block malt... As soon as you've 'sniffed' it, it's back to normal; Shy, cardboard box, slight fruit acidity, more fruit with movement but no fundamental change. Pity! That's not quite true, after a few more minutes you'll find partially fermented apples. Twice as bad! Wow, heat moves something here. A lot of acid, disinfectant and the alcohol bites the nose, the shyness is history, but I don't know immediately whether that's an advantage. Yes, it is, although he also withdraws again. Now the sweetness again, albeit subtle, hardly any acid, smoke? A handful of ppm? And the acid comes back, the cardboard box too, fortunately the yellow fruit too, annoyingly the rotten fruit too. But one thing can definitely be said, the nose is not boring, what a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Oh, but it comes along stormy, very gruff alcohol that pushes forward with absolute force, very creamy mouthfeel, on the aroma side it is also shy in the mouth, reflecting the impressions of the nose, cooling mint freshness at the back, which is probably a side effect of alcohol. Seems quite young. Very similar in the second sip, a bit more integrated, but also slightly metallic.
    • Finish
      83 83
In the finish it becomes clear that smoke is involved. The exit itself is quite short, however, there is no after-heating, the heating charge had already ignited in the first few seconds. A bit sweet at first, very quickly only a trace of ash remains in the still cool mouth. Interesting. In the second sip it dries off briefly, then becomes sweet and sour, stays a little longer overall and is still quite quick.

Very impressed about this young Teaninich, bold and very tasty with a typical Highland character.
