rather floral (fine floral scent) spicy than particularly fruity - yet very complex - very nicely ripened - I could smell forever - always on the move
    • Nose
ripe sweet mild spicy fine old oak mixes charmingly with fragrant old sweetened lemon and delicate floral scent - very oily and beautifully ripe and elegant - slightly warmer show: Fasssäure, orange, some yellow plum, pear, heavy sweetness with spicy warm oak (other Note) and roasted aromas, nutmeg, licorice, green tea with jasmine flowers - the nose changes in waves
    • Taste
great old oak - waxy, oily, very creamy - astringent tannins, alcohol perfectly integrated, very sweet but not sticky, teen, so intense that he wants in tiny swallows on the tongue
    • Finish
Honey sweet, peppery spicy (here on tap), tingling, tobacco, oak, mint, milk chocolate, wax again - very long

[March, 2019] Glenturret is a strange animal - most of its releases are rather sub-standard (e.g., the sixties vintages are almost all extremely perfumy/soapy) but some are really good. Looking at all the high scores of this bottling this must be great...

...and it is, at least by Glenturret standards. An easy quaffable and interesting to explore dram, but still this is not on eye-level with the best drams of the tier-1 distilleries. Nevertheless, very enjoyable.

The colour is yellow gold and the nose offers a delicious fruity-toffee profile with heather honey, beeswaxy and earthy aromas in a balanced mix. The wood is rather shy but adds fine spices after some breathing. Later floral notes join in while the oak grows stronger but it never dominates, the fruits vanish somewhat. No off-note that I can find, a truly great nose!
    • Taste
      90 90
The taste is toffee-vanilla sweet with bitter notes of herbs, tea and tobacco ash. Quite interesting but different to the nosing profile. Where are the fruits and honeys? After some chewing they dare to enter the stage but they stay rather shy. Instead loads of waxy and oily flavours rush on my taste buds, pretty nice. The spices are late but powerful and complement the other flavours nicely. The wooden notes are strong but still do not dominate too much which is great. No flaw here either (which is unusual with Glenturret that often produces strange but interesting off-notes).
    • Finish
      89 89
The dram arrives warming but not very much coating on the palate with a minor drying-astringent mouthfeel (cold metals and tannins). The finish is long and turns more spicy-oaky with a rather bitter profile towards the end that nonetheless never gets unpleasant. But there is a significant drying-astringent feeling that might not be to everyone's liking. Water releases more waxy and chalky aromas in the nose but it flattens the taste - I like this dram best when neat.

Definitely my biggest malt-surprise of 2017! One of the best non-sherried whiskies I’ve had so far.
    • Nose
Oh my; bees wax aplenty, all pollens, honeyed apple sauce, pear compote – all intermixed with one of the most pleasant of oak notes. Orange jam, lime puree, and biscuit cake. What a start!
    • Taste
Impactful arrival. Full of caramel, honey, waxy undertones, and a most curious association of apples. Here in Germany we have a type of gelatin-free wine gum that come in the form of spaghetti. Had plenty as a kid and the apple variety tasted exactly like this! Perfect strength and perfect balance too. Lime and orange jellies, gooseberries, and peppermint.
    • Finish
Medium-long. Caramel and toffee add to the waxy composition of the whole dram. Departs on milk chocolate and honey.

    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
Wow! A wonderful symbiosis of sweet, fruity and floral aromas as well as spicy oak wood notes stands out beguilingly from my glass. It's unbelievable how floral-sweet a malt can be after almost three decades of maturity. Right from the start, the nose is by far the best I've had this year. In the further course (about 30 minutes), more and more aromas crystallize out: Heavily definable flowering shrubs (perhaps lilac?), Ripe apples, orange marmalade, tropical fruits (mango & papaya), a splash of lime juice, vanilla, caramel sweets, abundant blossom honey , Butter biscuits, delicate hints of wax, spices and sweet sandalwood characterize the wonderful scent. The high-potency alcohol (53.2%) is very well integrated.
    • Taste
Wonderfully oily, almost creamy-buttery, the glenturret floods my palate. The spicy oak notes give the tannins free rein. At the tip of the tongue a slight prickle (pepper / ginger) develops, at the same time a heavy sweetness stands out. The palate is noticeably drier, an almost astringent effect begins. Again, I see flowering shrubs, tropical fruit (mango & papaya), vanilla, wax, biscuits, and blossom honey. The sweet sandalwood gets a slightly dusty-dry impact, but it looks very elegant and ripe. Pipe tobacco, nuts, roasted almonds and spices complete the complex taste profile. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, I do not add any water.
    • Finish
Long, sweet and spicy and warm. At the beginning of the finish, a pleasant pepperiness flashes for the last time before the sweet, tropical fruits, honey, wax and some vanilla can be highlighted again. Spicy-dry oak notes, hints of cocoa, nuts and pipe tobacco let the mellowed down prudence. On the palate remains a noticeable dryness.

    Nose:

Resinous wax, fragrant and elegant. Not the slightest trace of alcohol.

Marzipan, oiled old floorboards, pine wood in summer, a Finnish sauna hut in boreal forest, yet ever-changing fruity notes, ripe yellow plums and apricot (already on the way to be fermented), late summer Andalusian lemons with some teaspoons of  creamy honey and marzipan again, really mouthwatering. This is a bombastic aroma!

    Taste:

Silky and soft, with the refreshing sweet and sour taste of the fruits again, reminiscent of  some pineapple candy of my youth, followed by a lovely oily and totally viscous feeling which is changing to the ever-so-slightly sparkling finale. Reminds me of the best Clynelishes I have come across, the citrus notes are perfectly integrated into the wood´n´wax.

    Finish:

Long with a decrescendo of the wooden undertones, like a velvety jazz chord leaving you stunned and making you think of what has just happened. It is  subtle in the best sense of the word.

    Comment:

Entirely harmonious and sexy at the same time. Wow. Great stuff. You want to suck the marrow out of this cask!

    Varied, intense, a most
interesting challenge, an exceptional malt, no comparison to newer bottlings.
This Glenturret thrilled me again and again 2 years after I tried it for the first time.

Dark forest honey, beach lilac (I mean that slightly funky smell of the plant that grows ashore on the Wadden Sea). Masculine aftershave with cedar wood (my favorite), all interwoven with sweet and intense apricot and honeydew melon flavors.
    • Taste
      93 93
Fresh beech leaves, chewed with a spoonful of honey, intense, mouth-filling tree juice flavors that enrich the whole thing with a tart, lush fruitiness. Fantastic, here are the 28 years to the most pleasant advantage.
    • Finish

Very long! Everything the mouth has tasted is coming back, I could still eat forever, that's just great!

Exciting and delicious. The nose was initially too sour for me, but it quickly got better. The palate is great, full and tasty. 87 points.
    • Nose
Wow ... What's that fruity and kräutrig, but I have to sort it first. Pineapple is right up there and grated coconut. The oak is slightly acidic and brings intense herbs into the nose. Rosemary. Apple juice I perceive. Also wood is there, but in the background. The sweetie has a hard time in the beginning, but finally gets some space. Almdudler, herbal tea. Peppermint. The barrel hides the bourbon influence a bit, only slowly does vanilla get through. From the austere herbal tea is gradually a mild green tea. Water : It's getting milder and sweeter. Apple comes through stronger and a little honey. It is reminiscent of mead.
    • Taste
Buttery, creamy and sweet. Then comes the spicy oak and brings delicious tobacco, apple and herbs. Pineapple, but without much acid. The Nachschmecken is sweet, juicy with subtle chocolate. Water : Too, now the Met is not just there as a reminder, now it seems to be really in the mouth. Interesting. No alcohol noticeable, it could really be almost a slightly sour, spicy mead.
    • Finish
Sweet herbal tobacco stays for a long time. The tongue will find the sweet herbs for a long time.
