Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 1973 MoS

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.22 points

serge Colour: gold. Nose: completely different from the official 40, that is to say
mostly explosively fruity. Surprisingly big notes of bubblegum, tinned
pineapples and banana liqueur, then more coconut and white chocolate. If you
like hugely fruity oldies, this is for you. With water: more of the same, with
added notes of marzipan. Ultra-clean. Mouth (neat): once again, the fruitiness
is immense here. There are even hints of Muscat grapes, litchis and bags of
fresh strawberries, as well as these notes of pineapple that we already had on
the nose. Spectacular ‘polished youth’, so to speak. With water (although water
isn’t obligatory here): emphatically fruity, with also more vanilla fudge,
millionaire shortbread and nougat. Finish: medium long but still very clean,
fruity, jammy, with a little more tannins but also added notes of pink
grapefruits. Comments: immensely drinkable and stunningly alive. The huge
problem is that one may quaff litres of this without even noticing and at 55%,
that can be quite dangerous. Another amazing old Glengoyne.

Not very expressive on the nose, but very pleasant ... very nice finale with a nice balance between spices and the rest. Supports very well an addition of water ...
    • Nose
Vanilla, a lot of apple, grapefruit, less exuberant than the 1972, requires more time but quite complex too, more difficult to define ...
    • Taste
Palate: a little spicy, always on vanilla, honey, cleaner than 1972, warmer too and herbaceous with water ... very pleasant
    • Finish
Finish: Very long, very spicy, fruit cramble, orange / tangerine, a little waxy, warmer and woody too, some notes of apricot and cinnamon ...

A rather monomaniac nose. Not monolithic so far, the queen of our orchards knowing how to vary her attire and surprise us more beautiful. The nose is beautiful so the rest is really hard to follow. Too clear and marked by wood (even alcohol). This disturbing side, was erased after a few months. Do not hesitate to put water, it is very powerful.
    • Nose
Many apples and all kinds. Napoleon candy with apple, pink lady apple (sweet yum), caramelized apples, apple juice and apfelstrudel. Echoing the latter, a little muscatel grape and cinnamon. It is fruity, pastry and slightly spicy at the same time while keeping the same thread, no need to tell you which one. Plus a floral side not unpleasant. The whole is pure, straight, delicate.
    • Taste
Hot. Sweet and fruity at first. Then woody and bitterness.
    • Finish
Almond paste, fruity stimulus with apple and muscat grapes. Wooded again. A bit simplistic. Average length. Final between sweet and bitter. After 4 months, the woody disappears little by little and gives way to an intense fruitiness.

A great discovery. I could not imagine that old bourbon casked Glengoyne would taste so delicious.
    • Nose
Powerful, intensive, very clean and fruity. Caramel covered vanilla ice cream with acacia honey and mirabelle schnaps. Mnjam mjnam mnjam. Quite flowery as well. A great nose.
    • Taste
The first mouthfeel is wow! Pure delight and intensity. Rich and balanced. Candied overripe mirabelles and fudge. Very tasty.
    • Finish
Long and satisfying. Still on caramel and sweet mirabelles. A liquid dessert par excellence. Don't need sweets anymore, this is better.
