    • Nose
Bourbon-like, not like a bourbon-matured single malt, but really like a bourbon. Raspberry, caramel, vanilla and peach.
    • Taste
Candy, the hard marshmallow (schuimblokken) or bracelets kind of stuff which I find very typical for Cooley. Caramel, peach, apple, mint and pepper.
    • Finish
Banana, hard marshmallow, apple and caramel.

The sherry blows your nose. Almost liqueur-like. What a party, this - on a tasting I have been eating it inappropriately and now the sample is another highlight. The sherry is not dry but warm and ripe and just right. The alcohol is not sharp or sharp. This is a sherry bomb carpet. During the glass he becomes softer and more pronounced, the hole that appears to fall after the sherry disappears. Liquorice, toffee, I bought the last bottle available in the Netherlands. Best decision EVER. The only problem is whether I kill or sell it, because it doesn't have to be clairvoyant for it to be worth much more, just be patient.

This was sample 5 in the blind virtual whiskey tasting on Whiskeyforum.nl. It was my winner from the whole line-up.

Geur: Wow, Great nose! I smell vanilla, but allso sherry influences. Some tropical fruits, banana. Nice and sweet.
With an bit of water the fruit become more prominent. This might even be a portwood? Dome whiskies you (almost) don't have to drink. Smelling them is enough. This is a whiskey like that!

Taste: I love this stuff! I prefer it without water. This might very well be a portwood or PX wood. (How wrong I was in the end) It's nice and sweet. Something burned in the distance.

Really good. At first vanilla and tropical fruits. It dissapates quite fast, but after that there is wood. That lingers.
In the end there is s omething metallic that I have tasted before in sherried drams.

My guess back then was that is was a Speysider single casked sherried or px-ed 10 year old.

    I NEVER thought about Ireland.

Back then I scored it 95 points, so it seems only fair I keep that score.

Nose: Especially a thick layer of oak. Virgin oak? Hard to get through. Buttercotch, toffee, vanilla, raspberry jam and caster sugar.
Taste: Here you can taste more sherry influences, but rather superficially. Good mouthfeel, quite syrupy. In the direction of the finish, he becomes more fruity, red fruit. And marzipan.
Judgment: tasty, but not a high flyer. Nose has too many new oaks and the taste is a bit flat. Good daily dram, because he drinks well (albeit with some water) and is not too complex.

Thanks to the Virtual Blind Tasting 10 of the Whiskey Forum!

    My guess was a Clynelish, 48% @ 14-yo.
Sample #5 of the HWF VBT 2018. Great dram.
    • Nose
      88 88
Banana, yellow fruit, mint, grass, fresh oak, vanilla, light brown sugar, some fudge
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet honey, oak-y vanilla, sugar coated fresh grass, buttery fudge
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium long, not bitter, slightly drying. The vanilla oak fades away into honey-dipped fudge

    HWF VBT10, sample 5

Nose: initially nice sherry nose, caramel, but you can smell very little soon. But fortunately a little later the wonderful smell comes back, and how! Beautiful sherry bomb this!
Taste: nice and greasy, old, dried fruit, blueberries, raisins, cherries
    Finish: full, taste stays good

Dutch whiskey (uhm... apparently because this is an Irish whiskey, you're not allowed to type the word 'w h i s k y' in your review, that's just plain stupid) forum blind tasting #10 - sample #5.

A very palatable bottling; both bourbon and sherry influences. Guessed it to be a 12 - 15 year old speysider with sherry finish or a sherry matured one with virgin oak finish, turned out to be Irish, 13 years and sherry finished (yes this is definitely a sherry FINISH), fair enough.
    • Nose
      87 87
New leather, furniture polish, spicy, a non sweet malty bread/porridge note, nutmeg, walnuts, sherry, vanilla, toffee, raisins, dades, peach, sweet oranges and a whiff of mint.
    • Taste
      88 88
Quite full bodied, not too heavy in alcohol, actually I would never have given this 53% ABV, the mouth feel is closer to 46%.
Creamy, juicy, sweet, peaches, plums, caramel, milk chocolate, sweet citrus flavours, honied liqourice.
    • Finish
      86 86
Fairly long, syrup, honied liquorice, a mild citrus bitter, some dusty fresh wood note, nutmeg and a mild black tea note.

    Blind Tasting: HWF-VBT 10 - # 5

    So, another sherry bomb.
    Raisins, dried red fruit, sweet.

Sherry a bit greasy and hot, raisins, dried red fruit, a Glendronach Allardice but higher in the alcohol.

Very long, raisins and dark red fruit.

A great dram that reminds me of my first loafers. I would not buy this now but could enjoy it at the time.
    • Nose
      86 86
A light sherry nose. Spicy. Spiced Bisquit. Also some musty cardboard. Slightly longer in the nose and there is some sweetness, forest fruits. A raisin. There is some alcohol in the nose the ABV will be a bit higher. If you rotate it for a while, a glue air will be released. Almost a single grain.
    • Taste
      84 84
Spicy spicy and sharp. Tobacco. The taste immediately brings me back to one of my first whiskeys in my closet: the Hyde 10yo.
    • Finish
      82 82
Body: Powerful and sharp, and the sharp edges do not go off but turn to a bitter edge, the tobacco from the nose.
      Finish: Short and bitter-sweet
