  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A very old Bow Street distillate bottled in the 1940's or early 1950's by L&E Egan Ltd. in Dublin. No size or ABV strength mentioned on the bottle. Funny to mention that this particular whiskey was bottled in a Cork Distilleries Co bottle (used for Paddy's 10 in the 1940's and 1950's). In those days bonders apparently didn't hesitate to bottle their whiskey in used bottles. Mind you that Cork Distillers were big competitors of Bow Street in that time.
    • Nose
Starts with lots of dustiness intermingled with dried flowers and a metallic edge. Followed with delicate sweetness of Turkish Delight and marzipan. Dried apricots as well. Chamomile. Beeswaxed furniture and shoe polish later on. Meaty notes at the background. Beautiful old-skool pot stil. One of the most complex noses I ever had in old Irish whiskey's. Very different compared to other JJ&S 10yo from later decades.
    • Taste
O la la! Now more on gentle forest fruit of blueberries, raspberries and blackcurrant. Caramelized cherries. Tangerines and a little lemon. Roasted almonds and touch of sandal wood. Pot still oiliness which gives this whiskey a waxy mouthfeel. I guess this whiskey was matured in sherry casks, something of which Bow Street Distillery was famous for in the old days.
    • Finish
Medium long. A little pepper and nutmeg. Grapefruit bitterness. Some industrial oils. Hints of balsamic vinegar . Pine at the end. Angus who tasted a sample from my bottle for Whiskeyfun gave it 76 points. Needless to say that I fully disagree with him on this one.
