Wow, a great barrel! Somewhat reminiscent of an ex-Bourbon barrel in the first impression.

    Really good!

Has everything I expect from an old refill sherry barrel.

Great nose! First ripe, sweet apples as a topping on a fruit salad. After that, a nice light sherry aroma becomes more and more prevalent. Not too intrusive, as I would expect from a Refill Sherry Butt. Vanilla and caramel can be found in the background. A certain maltiness is present. If he stands longer, the old age becomes clear. The fruits become even more distinct and ripe. Wood is really only available as a companion.

The fruits shrink very easily with water. There are also some fresh garden herbs. Over time, red gummy bears will be added.

He can tolerate water, but doesn't have to.
      I'm glad I had a whole bottle.
    • Taste
      90 90
Fruity and oily in the beginning. The sherry barrel then brings a good portion of seasoning with it. But the sherry is absolutely not in the foreground. Some milk chocolate.
The sweet and spicy flavors alternate very nicely.
    • Finish
      89 89
Spices like cinnamon and some white pepper. Coffee or espresso. Some dry straw. The fruits also keep for a long time.

    ***
    ????: sweet Tokaj wine
????: sweet, even very sugary, like a typical ex-bourbon, there is light vegetable, spicy, and that's it. The nose does not have much to show, after a while it opens with shampoo and soap
????: sweet, smooth, extremely delicate, quickly softens but stays on the tongue for a long time, unfortunately a bit of alcohol ech: /
    ????: moderate, sweet,
    *
Feeling that this is not a young whisky, already arranged, delicate, fruity, quite ok, it's a pity that it is not much to show. Although after a while I would give 0.5-1 more for exceptional delicacy. The sherry barrel had to be the nth refill that makes an impression ex-bourbon, not ex-sherry.

Wow this is a very good Glen Grant release by The Maltman. I only tasted their Benrinnes before, which is also excellent.
    • Nose

The nose starts it all off in a great way. Delicious. A fruit-basket with apples up front.
    • Taste
      89 89
That good that I dare not add any drops of water. Full body sweetness with apples all over the place.
    • Finish
      87 87
After the first sips the finish was not that long, but strange enough after leaving it in the glass a bit longer, the finish gets longer as well. First sweet but getting slightly bitter in the very end.

A very good whisky. Worth the €160 you pay for it!
    • Nose
      90 90
This is a very good nose. Parfum, wood, sweetness, flower-shop. Woodpolish and what we call a colonial cabinet. Hint of fresh cigars. There is not very much of a classic sherry nose in here. But it is very pleasing. With some water: more caramel on the nose.
    • Taste
      89 89
Very sweet, a lot of apples. Honey and good mellow influence of wood. With water: less of the alcohol bite, but this stays very good.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium-long length. Almost starts with some freshness. But it changes to very good and heavy malty-caramel-cream notes. Again not much of the sherry influence here. With water: more balanced and strangely longer length.

    • Nose
Really a lot of apple (yellow and red). Also baked apple with vanilla sugar. Rarely had so much apple in the nose. In addition malt. Peach ice tea. White grapes. Forest honey.
    • Taste
Only really cute. Acacia honey. Again, this apple fruit. Apricot jam. Then it gets bitter. Apple pears must. And the oak is also noticeable.
    • Finish
Apple and pear peel. Wet wood. Grapefruit.

    sample.

A very warming profile. There is almost zero Sherry influence but it is not weak or unexpressive even if its a bit simple. Quite good. Right up my alley (- the oak)
    • Nose
Some almost overripe apples, with lots of malt. Nice typical even if uneventful Speyside nose. Good honey aroma. Some pleasant tea notes.  A bit of caramel, which works very well in some baked apple kind of way.
    • Taste
Slightly fizzy in the beginning, noticeable oak but not too much. The apples again. Butter and caramel. After that a strong sweet camomile tea note takes over which reminds of the fantastic Dalmore 1990 i had (also refill Sherry). Water makes it a bit more alcoholic, but the profile doesn't change much imo.
    • Finish
Nice long finish  with some oak, a certain minty freshness and some herbs.

n: Sweet malt, ripe apples carved with lavender honey, caramel, vanilla, summer pile, parsley, a freshly opened glacier ice cream pack, all very mild and pleasant with only a few glowing notes of alcohol.

t: Again malty sweetness, red apples, light peppery with forest honey, thyme and rosemary, palm sugar and a little notes of wood.

f: Very tasty malt, fine, mild wood notes, herbs, far behind a floral sweetness. quite long.

With 2 drops of water: the malt sweetness is extremely delicious in the nose. Generally more angular, one-dimensional and less well-integrated alcohol.

@Tom and Ingrid - the Lemongrass note I smelled only when the glass was empty - the Gletschereisbonbons arouse childhood memories ;)

Without a doubt a successful malt - good price/quality ratio, my first Glen Grant. Recommended.

For the age of 21 years in the refill Sherry Butt you notice relatively little wood, probably because of the "refill", otherwise you could tipppen on Bourbon maturation (was in the blind tasting the prevailing opinion).
    • Nose
green apple, lemongrass, "glacier ice candy"
    • Taste
The apple continues, a certain sweetness spreads, hazelnut, it becomes somewhat astringent, peppery, but not unpleasant
    • Finish
      a bit woody, pleasant

Wow - had the blind-tasted and would never have suspected a sherry keg behind it. Cooked bright fruits, caramel, vanilla without end, pudding sweetness - all had pointed to bourbon cask. Only the strong but not dominant oak might be a hint. But in that case I do not care about the barrel - the result is right! A really delicious Malt - my best Glen Grant so far (ok had not many ^ ^)

A wonderful Glen Grant, probably. the best I have ever had. The mixture of dark and light fruit, with all the honey and the beautiful pear is a feast, great piece.
    • Nose
Very nice sweet malt, toffee, dark honey, beautiful dried fruit like apricots and sweet red apple with shell, some dry orange and brown sugar, slight heather notes
    • Taste
Very beautiful full mouth directly with sweetest red apple, sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon, honey flows under it in a whole river, vanilla, sweet malt, brown sugar, heather, pears of sweet red-spotted variety, astringent with nice punch, without alcoholic to act
    • Finish
Dry fruity, like a good calvados or rose wine, dry apple peel with extremely delicious malt, some Mediterranean herbs, medium to long
