I got this bottle for £235 in May of 2023.

This profile is exactly what I hoped for and precisely to my preferences. Stunning old highland malt. I'm surprised this whisky doesn't have a stronger reputation. But then, "8 years old" and "Dufftown". ;-)

Just as good as I remember. Very austere but complex. Very dry but fruity. Excellent.
By the way, my bottle has a flat base. There are ones with a concave base.

All on coal smoke, polished metal, soot, engine oil, camphor, maybe even a nettle or two. But there's also this amazing grapefruit note that weaves in and out and fits in perfectly, complimenting that oh-so-elegant cold dryness created by the perfect combination of the peat, spirit, and 60 or so years of glass aging. Hey, there are oranges and passion fruits as well, even drops of honey and wax.

An amazing attack. The fruits are more balanced with the other parts, and there's now a more evident spiciness (pepper), and a bucket of delicious meaty bouillon. The dram remains old-peaty and old-fruity in perfect harmony, with plenty of wax and herbs in the background providing a supporting backbone and additional complexity to the profile. If I had to choose a whisky characteristic of early post-war highland malts, this would be a candidate difficult to beat.

Pineapples, passion fruits, "dull" oranges, grapefruit, limes, honey. Slightly sour with the fruits, in the best way. And all of the soot, metal polish, camphor, nameless herbs, coal - they're never not present. There's also some bouillon once again, adding a pleasant meatiness to the symphony. Very long finish. Oh, and the whole is fresh and vibrant, amazingly so considering the time in glass. Stunning.
