Can absolutely be seen and does not have to hide behind the Scottish colleagues. Nice thing, especially the varied and not too smooth nose in contrast to the tongue is fun.
    • Nose
      87 87
The scent of a wildflower meadow, with apples, pear purée and tangerines - and as a complement to make it not too sweet and pleasing, a little tree resin and the smell of a sunlit pine forest. Milk chocolate, Nesquik cocoa. In the background light maritime notes. Mineral, spicy, reminiscent in places of a young Springbank.
    • Taste
      86 86
To start on the tongue full of toffee, malt, chocolate and tart honey. A nice handle to the spice rack: juniper berries, rosemary, lovage, chervil. Only subtly fruity, barely floral, now rather a bit "dirty" with mineral notes (the sucked pebble), resin and spices that play into the tart. Dry.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium-long and dry (oak), increasingly peppery, returning apple notes, some citrus juice. Caramel and toffee sweets.

The Mackmyra is interesting, I didn't find the sherry cask but in between I kept thinking about bourbon. It's very fruity, but I had trouble making out individual fruits, so I opted for "Fruit Salad". Overall it is fresh and fruity, very nice in summer. I liked him!
    • Nose
Beguiling... a sweet perfume. Light fruits like apples, plus salmiak malt and fresh cucumber. It smells a bit like a bourbon... I still have vanilla, fruit gum and fresh cut flowers.
    • Taste
Very fresh and fruity, like a fruit salad, sparkling and herbal and sage candy.
    • Finish
Strong vanilla and caramel aromas, bourbo aromas, fruit marzipan and fruit jelly, a little malty.

My first Swedish malt, not disappointing at all. Quite peculiar for its smooth vanilla nose and some oaky bitterness in the (slightly dry) aftertaste.
Very light on the palate, yet interestingly textured and revealing a wide range of cereal flavours. Even if this is the only malt from this distillery having an age statement, it makes me curious to discover more of its expressions, as this one really seems packed with much skill and care.
    Well done, Mackmyra!

I think the nose is a bit "messed up" but it is interesting and diversified, also with a lot of depth. On the palate, however, it is a bit too harsh in places and has too much liquorice and coconut for my personal taste. Of the three Mackmyras I've tried so far, this one I like the least at first. I would have expected a little more settledness / balance when specifying the age, but when I think about it, I've also had other ten-year-olds who looked similar. Still very tasty drink.
    • Nose
      85 85
Apple, banana sauce and bread with raisins. Something dark, grainy and whole bread. Grassy. In places I perceive a component of which I am not entirely sure whether it is more youthful and harsh (metallic?) Or rather a mineral note for me. I think I can still find warming spices and a little pepper, as well as roasted aromas like coffee. With enough air, an aromatic, creamy-sweet wood spice flows out of the glass paired with concentrated, deep, full of fruit, which suddenly makes it appear much more ripe. Somehow I find the nose a bit "messed up" but overall appealing.
    • Taste
      82 82
ühl-mineral. At first a bit harsh / snappy, seems quite youthful to me. Vanilla, spicy sweetness. Becomes pudding-like and oatmeal-like full-bodied. At the same time it has a tart, tart side. Not quite as harmoniously balanced.
    • Finish
      83 83
Pebble licking. Young pear and green apple. Blackcurrant? Icing sugar sweet. Then it evolves towards spearmint chewing gum. Anise, liquorice and straw-like ginger in a combination and intensity that I find a little too much for me. After that he goes very much towards coconut and completely new wood. The mouth becomes increasingly dry. All of this on a foundation that somehow still seems like a fruity-pure new make to me in places. Not very long, but pleasant.

You can get a lot for the narrow thaler here. Looks pretty broad, almost complex.
    • Nose
      87 87
Mackmyra typical banana. Malt, vanilla pudding, apple, shortbread biscuits. You can easily guess Speyside here blindly. Looks rather broad in the nose - nice part.
    • Taste
      86 86
Quite broad and tasty. Jam-like consistency, already quite sweet. Currant / gooseberry. some apple. Towards the end the banana again
    • Finish
      86 86
slightly tart, creamy. some grapefruit acid.

Very fruity. Elderflower, oranges, a lot of floral notes, citrus, honey, pommegranate, forest in the summer, freshly cut grass, tree sap, sherry. One of the more complex noses, I've tasted!
    • Taste
      88 88
An explosion of flavours! Quite oaky. Alchohol really comes through (a bit of youth). Dry on the back of the tongue.
Orange peel, oak, sherry, pears. The oak is quite pleasant.
    • Finish
      87 87
Very long, very pleasantly oaky, (over)ripe/dry fruits.

  12. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Tried at the regulars' table, therefore shorter notes. Solid malt, never had really bad things from Mackmyra, drinkable, if nothing special.
    • Nose
Muddy apple, forest honey and walnut, chestnut, butter, fresh leaves and malt
    • Taste
Again the butter, sweet at first, then chestnut and walnut, turns into oak, hazelnut chocolate, heather, liquorice and shortbread
    • Finish
Medium length with the oak, nuts and light citrus notes, some toffee

  13. 2ndSip scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Variety of flavors and flavors with a dash of oak and slightly bitter at the back, which is not too strong. Nice.
Tip: give the whisky enough time to develop (after 20-30 minutes in the air, the flavors will be even more pronounced).
    • Nose
      87 87
first a clear sherry note with raisins and dates as well as red (dried) berries / cherry. Then fruity and some herbs (but stay in the background). Sweet direction fried apple with honey glaze, but not pushy sweet. Spices, especially a note of cinnamon. Some vanilla. Somehow reminiscent of winter time with mulled wine and Christmas cookies.
    • Taste
      83 83
sweet, spicy, creamy-oily. Sherry with raisins. Spices in the direction of nutmeg (getting a little bit bitter). An oak and malt note are added later, which also make it a bit bitter - but is still ok. Dark chocolate with a tart aroma.
    • Finish
      80 80
medium length. Oak remains dominant, with some malt. Spices. The tongue becomes dry. A slightly coffee-tart aroma and something slightly nutty are also retained.

Even my second Mackmyra was not particularly convincing. In any case, it is more appetizing in taste than in aroma. Interesting for me is a certain resemblance to the Irish style. Adding water will soften its overall appearance. The bottle states: Art. MC-008 (Based on sample.)
    • Nose
Soft and strange smoke, perhaps herbal character. Vanilla. Rather bland.
    • Taste
For the first time, it is fine to bland, reminiscent of Irish whisky. Later it gains in strength and complexity. Marzipan, mint, honey, vineyard peach, mango, panna cotta. Overall sweetness combined with acidity and light bitterness.
    • Finish
Slightly spicy. Pepper and persistent freshness of mint.

Can compete with the big ones from Scotland. It's a classic more modern malt which will please everybody.
    • Nose
      84 84
Sweet and flowers, little malt notes. Hint of flowery soap. Some Glade spray to be honest.....
It's quite a good nose, but nothing outstanding.
    • Taste

Sweet, easy accessible. Malty and a touch of fruitiness. Nothing special to be honest.

A perfect example of a middle of the road, everybody’s got to like it kind of whisky. No surprises, just whisky. I also tasted the Preludium 03 (15097) which I felt was more outspoken and exciting.
    • Nose
Best part of the whisky imho. Lavender, Milk chocolate, raisins, a grassy note. Quite tastefull and gentle. Easy accesible. dutch Candy called ‘salmiakdrop’.
    • Taste
It is a big rough and not in the greatest balance yet. Turbulent I’d say. First it’s quite gentle, fat and even a little waxy. Right after that it becomes sharp and turns a little agressive. Water eases it down a bit. Green Herbs, baked apples, and a hint of perfume
    • Finish
Short. Slightly sharp initially but sweet and salty after. Again a hint of ‘salmiakdrop’. Lavender closes the game.

Strange. Tasted this whisky in the same lineup with the Mackmyra Preludium (15097) which has a very low rating of 73,21. For me the Preludium was the easy winner. The 10y old dies within seconds. Not complex at all. Nothing happens. The 10y for me will only be useful for an easy summer dram during warm weather which is coming up over here in the Netherlands.

Nice pleasant whisky. Not too intrusive, but also no uniformity.
    • Nose
      90 90
A lot of vanilla, flowery, then come citrus fruits with orange and lemon bring through the beautiful sweetness, the Bourboneinfluss is clearly superficial, at the end is still a note reminiscent of raw salad, very good in the nose
    • Taste
      86 86
In the beginning taste of sugar cake with almond, vanilla, then some pepper comes along, nice and soft. Unfortunately not as complex as the smell
    • Finish

Short to medium long, a little sweet, now more pepperiness comes through almost sharpness, very little oak comes through, fruit notes remain quite a long time on the tongue

Around 20,000 bottles we made in total, with the first 360 bottles destined for the UK sold out in minutes.

N: Aged-rum-like with runny toffee, fresh herbal, sweet smooth & thick putty mash, some linseed oil, olive oil touches,..
T: Surprisingly rather generic/Scottish given the unique house-styles that have preceded this ones arrival. Proper chewy mouthfeel.
F: Long toffee malt with a small handful of pine needles.
C: It's certainly very good if only a little Swedish in character. Maybe it was a deliberately ‘safe’ release, one that securely places it & Mackmyra on the ‘established’ global whisky map.Scores a B-

Quite classic my faith, but well done, balanced, and consistent. Easy access, but does not revolutionize the world of whisky. To test.
    • Nose
Well present, offering a mixture of fruits (apple and lemon mainly) and malt rather dry. Honey and vanilla bring sweetness, without obscuring the overall dryness of the nose. Green wood in abundance after aeration.
    • Taste
Gentle and easy to access, without aggressiveness. A fruity acidulous and bitter mixture is needed. Apple, lemon peel. Malt is here too, without being too dry this time.
    • Finish
Mirabelle liqueur sneaks, before giving way to bitter malt. The citrus acid is a little while, then a pinch of sweet spices is thrown on the tongue. Green wood in quantity appears at the very end of the course.

  33. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Wow, at the first try (whisky bar, by the way, people, conversations) I had ticked off the "so-so", but that's really delicious and tasty, quite round thing, for the first regular standard with age, the Blender has really trouble , Of course, 55 € are not cheap, but you can apply, since already really good barrels seem to be processed.
    • Nose
very pleasant, quite complex, hard to describe, just smells good ... there is definitely honey, a sweet fruitiness (peach / apricot / mirabelle / orange marmalade), cinnamon, brown sugar, later it gets drier, there are dry kitchen herbs , mild wood ... everything fits together wonderfully (there are more things, but I do not like dissecting any more and the basic character tatters ;-))
    • Taste
here too pleasant, creamy with a light spiciness (cinnamon, nutmeg), nougat and Werther's genuine, some marzipan, he leaves longer in the mouth, comes also velvety cocoa, very tasty (the fruit notes, which I read from others, I can but do not confirm)
    • Finish
long and creamy, sweet and spicy, Werther's genuine, milk chocolate, some gingerbread spice, finally towards herbal candy

  34. Seb.Whisky scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Well, it's a success, I'm starting to imagine what it will look like with a five or ten year old version. (Whisky Passion)
    • Nose
It is a fruit syrup that is first known. I would say apple in the form of cream. I had the opportunity to taste Mackmyra much younger and clearly this one is a level above. The malty style is a little erased, in favor of vanilla, honey. Ginger confit, slightly lemony.
    • Taste
The whole is caramelized to perfection, creamy vanilla cream. New wood will make its appearance, without jostling the whole. Red fruits, blackcurrant and this kind of berries. Very flexible, well balanced and particularly mature. The share of Oloroso is present, sweet, with an orange flavor, yes sherry. Some spices, it's a balance number.
    • Finish
Vive. There is a certain fruity acidity. Dry wood. It will warm up again, with spices, raisins.

In any case, a Mackmyra. As mentioned, the Swedes are known for their beautiful fruity whiskys and their barrel gimmicks. Since the Mackmyra Ten Years is no exception. Especially this slightly oriental impression by the sweet blackteen notes, in combination with the Christmas spices, I find very positive. The hardcore Scotchfanatic may be overly bizarre, but I like that very much. I think it's great that Mackmyra does not try to be convulsively scottish, both in terms of packaging and whisky, but just pervades its boot. Does not have to be "everyones dram of whisky", but you should open up more anyway. Just look beyond the Scottish plate.

    • Nose
Sweet and fruity, it comes in the nose. You can tell the sherry unmistakably. Aromas of dried fruit mix with light vanilla and honey.
    • Taste
Reminds me of a sweet black tea with candy. Again, of course, clearly fruity and it mixes a slightly cinnamon seasoning underneath. On the palate, one notices a little more clearly the fresh oak from the Virgin Oak barrel. All in all, this plays well together.
    • Finish
In the medium long finish you can clearly see the barrels. The Oloroso brings a fruity-dry finish, which is rounded off by the fresh wood notes and some Christmas spice.

    https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2017/05/18/mackmyra-10yo-is-here/

Given they started distilling in 1999, what this 10yo release means in reality is Mackmyra have enough 10yo stock for international release which is good news. In fact the 10yo is made up from spirit aged up to 13 years.

    N: Bourbon-aged icing sugar whisky.
T: Something Scottish, something Irish [neither of course], softish & fruity. There’s far more fruity-putty depth here than in the younger ‘pineapple cube & pine needle presentations’, which i find most agreeable also - the 'Bruks' WB for instance [batch dependent], of which I’ve enjoyed many a bottle over the last few years. In that sense feel i’ve been watching this one grow up.
F: Good continuation in form and further demonstrations of maturity.
C: I hear the uncle in me saying ‘hasn’t she grown’ - and ‘she’ has. Only the nose wasn’t totally convincing.Scores a B-Take 2:N: Farmy? - [Probably coming from my previous Clynelish]. Maturity for sure with that by-now familiar distillery signature, depth & [cask] character - white acorn oak with buttery flapjack.
T: Popcorn less the pine needles - more a woody-green sweet soup that hopefully one day will become more oily in time - in bigger casks?
F: Very much led by the bourbon casks this, much like Balblair in style - yet I find this better than some recent Inverhouse Highland releases.
C: Very good indeed, a fine way to announce ones first core 10yo.Scores a B[-]

    Integrated

At last it has arrived: the official ten year old single malt from Mackmyra. This Swedish single malt was composed with whisky that matured on bourbon and oloroso casks and new American oak. It was put together by Master Blender Angela D’Orazio. Only 20.000 bottles were created, of which 12.000 are destined for the Swedish market. The rest of the world will have to make do with the remaining 8.000 bottles.

Oh, my, the first whiff reminds me immediately of a dusty attic. Or furniture in an antiques store. Then the fruity notes kick in. I get some apples, pears, strawberries and raspberries, but also coconut, sultanas and something that reminds me of chocolate, but... not quite. There is a floral touch in the background as if from parma violets. All in all, this makes for a lovely nose with integrated aromas.

The mouthfeel is more than ok. Nicely oily. The fruit returns from the start (with the white fruit in the lead, followed closely by red notes), but is immediately overpowered by the spices. It is a mix of peppers, some nutmeg and bakery spices. It works like a charm and gives the malt depth and complexity.

The finish is not overly long, but does remain warm due to the spices. The fruit lingers nicely.

Beautiful Swede, although not my favorite Mackmyra (that is still the Vinterrök). But definitely a nice composition brining the different casks together in an integrated whole. Thanks to Mackmyra for the miniature.

Mackmyra showed in the past that it's capable of making very friendly, fruity whiskies. This is no exception. It's very well balanced, with a perfect equilibrium of fruit, malt and spice. This first age statement whisky sets high expectations for the future.
Thanks to the friendly people of Mackmyra for offering a sample.
    • Nose
Very friendly, malty and fruity. Warm apple pie with raisins, lemon and cinnamon comes up first. Or would it be a strudel, with vanilla cream on top? Apart from that, there is plain malt, dough, The oak is noticeable, and gives a soft polish, saw dust and spicy nose.
    • Taste
The attack is powerful, but fruity and spicy. There is a lot of yellow garden fruit, some lemon drops, field flowers, but certainly soft spices: cinnamon and white pepper. At the end, some grassy notes emerge.
    • Finish
Medium long, and still estery: yellow fruit and flowers. Mild spices, cake dough, and cinnamon complete this joyful finish.

The guys from Gävle just know what they are doing. With partly adventurous Nachreifungen they have been able to gain enough experience over the last few years. For their first whisky with a date on it was decided for a more conventional ...

    • Nose
The Mackmyra Ten sets off with a strong sweet and sour spice, ripe apples and pears, berry compote, pickled cherries, raisins, freshly grated lemon zest, mirabelle plums, sweet vanilla, dark cane sugar, lavender and very strong but beautifully integrated into the overall oak oak notes. And in between the again so typical for Mackmyra sour spice, which always reminds me of pickled cucumbers.
    • Taste
The onset is sharp and strong, intense sweet and spicy with a lot of fruit it starts on the palate, creamy vanilla and caramel, raisins, marzipan and juicy citrus harmonize wonderfully with the strong tart oak notes. Nothing dominates, everything harmonizes equally with each other.
    • Finish
In the long finish again bright fruits, a herbaceous-grassy sweetness, a hint of clove and mild oak.

    • Nose
Very complex fruitiness with floral notes, which evoke associations with a flowering flower meadow. So far I have noticed similar floral notes in the Hibiki Japanese Harmony. Primarily bright fruits like green apples, citrus fruits, pears and apricots are dominant during my first impression. Subtle sherry notes linger in the background. Strong vanilla, slightly kräutrige notes, grassy freshness (towards eucalyptus) and a more perceptible oak flavor complete the complex aromas.
    • Taste
Full, powerful start with a pleasant, oily mouthfeel. Very sweet and fruity, especially in the front tongue area, but at the same time with a noticeable oak spice, which causes a slight tingle. Harmoniously tuned, as neither aroma spectrum (sweet & spicy) dominates the taste too much. Lemons, apples, some vanilla, dark chocolate and a hint of anise / clove crystallize out. The subtle Sherrynoten linger, as in the nose, in the background.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Fruity, with distinct oak notes, herbs and some sherry. Slightly drier with a hint of bitterness.

The best Mackmyra I have ever tasted! Enthusiasm 4/5
    Whisky n ° 1241
    • Nose
Sweet, on deep vanilla. Intense ripe fruit, wax. Woody and subtle chocolate.
    • Taste
Juicy fruit, jam. Delicate, beautiful texture. It lacks a little bit of relief and spice in the mouth to make it a must!
    • Finish
      decent
