- [March, 2017] Very complex and old style nose (old bottle flavour), simply delicious. Key aromas are on toffee/caramel, latte macchiato coffee, vanilla bourbon wood and floral/grassy notes (autumn meadow with haystacks). Bold and mouth-coating arrival on the tongue, very creamy. The body is on that delicious toffee and coffee flavours again, but a little bit drying/adstringent too (no wonder after 38 years in the cask). A hint of salt is added in the aftertaste. The finish is rather short and again drying, nevertheless quite complex on all the aromas mentioned above. With water both the body and the finish get smoother with less dryness than neat, but the nose looses. So nose it neat, but drink it with some water (that is how I score it). My score neat only would have been two points lower. Very nice old Dufftown with an adorable nose, could have been bottled a couple of years earlier to avoid the drying wooden notes...
- [April, 2018] I re-tasted this dram today and find it not as drying as the first time one year ago. I score the initial mouthfeel, body and finish one point higher each - so the total score is a solid 90 points tonight. A very fine dram indeed!
