In the nose a mixture of pear and a bit of sour blueberry. With sponge cake. Cornflakes. In addition fresh and floral notes. Succulent wood too.
Nice sweetness in the mouth. Brittle. Some marzipan. Orange oil. Toast. Dried wood. Grain.

Neat malt, which doesn't flash me now either. The prices from € 200 - € 600 are of course completely stupid and absolutely not of quality.

    Very nice stuff. Nuff said. Tasted on 13/11/2016 in a Japanese line-up (WB ID's 70236, 5443, 9252, 38412, 6016, 71248 and 20342, in that order).
    • Nose
Oh, this is nice! Flowers everywhere - I'm imagining The Sound Of Music in my head now! Some cinnamon, grassy notes as well, everything accompanied with a layer of vanilla beeswax.
    • Taste
This is the good stuff. Clean and crisp yet full of flavors: vanilla beeswax sweetness with floral floralness (is that a word? Well, you get the idea). Faint touch of wood.
    • Finish
Peppery spiciness kicking in, later on converting to sweet floral tones with some grassiness.

In Scottish terms it might be close to Lowland territories.
    • Nose
First nose provides fine sourness, sour-sweet fruit - white apple like, apple juice, citron, juicy kiwi pulp, it is fresh, woodsy slightly, wood chips?, with hints of cut grass, mint leaf, eucalyptus and muskmelon.

Basically this is very summery indeed, warm, yet clear and delicate enough, with touches of field flowers, daisies, pollen/honeyed, anise, rosin, sleek (vanillic) wood, cashew, hazelnut. And after that: candied fruit jelly, gelatine, glucose,
    • Taste
A trifle sweet beginning alters promptly by herbal bitterness of fern, leafage, bay leaf, licorice root and menthol - cool, fresh.

Mid palate: chamomile tea, broth?, herb tea, wild (mānuka?) honey, a tad earthy, salty even.

Medium bodied, oily. Being moderate on the palate, it's got a nice balance indeed - no edginess, no sharpness whatsoever, nothing is jutting out there, everything's in harmony - ah, so Japanese that!
    • Finish
Lemon zest, (salty) lemon-/orange rind, coriander, nutmeg, bitter tangerines flare up then, ginger sherbet fizz. Citruses galore.Soft but lasting. With an exclusive balance once again.

This is very young and not that matured in my opinion. However, the casks they used were exceptional. This is a very decent sherries whisky.
    • Nose
Very sweet without smoke, pineapple and stewed apple, banana and red berries.
    • Taste
Very smooth and mellow, banana and sherry, milk chocolate
    • Finish
      medium finish, sherry and spices.

This whisky is just a little too young and powerful. I would love to see him again if he has been lying on a good barrel for 15 or 20 years in order to flatten his youthful strength and develop the complex tones and aromas further. Everything is present in this whisky, however, it is drowned out by the power in this dram. But certainly not bad whisky. The pepperiness reminds me again of the Talisker 10. 喝采!
    • Nose
Pure and light. Vanilla, slightly floral. Lily, fennel, fruit. Hint of nuts (hazelnut / brazil nuts). Show pines. Mild sweetness combined with juicy, ester-like aromas, especially banana candy. There is also a very discreet hint to smoke. Sweet and refined with a nice level of complexity.
    • Taste
Immediately tingling and spicy, clinging to the tongue it delivers a huge load of spicy fruit (raisins, plums) and citrus oils with a little salt. Beautiful oak tones that are not bitter, sherry, caramel and a hint of espresso. This is a robust dram. The power of alcohol seems to be much larger than the bottled strength of 45%.
    • Finish
Long aftertaste with notes of cereals, herbs and oaks. Ends dry with a hint of peppermint.

A very interesting nose, but a mouth too dry.
    • Nose
Sweet, delicate and fruity. Anise, orange blossom, fennel, delicately fruity. An interesting creamy side, with vanilla, honey. Chlorophyll.
    • Taste
Cool but drier than the nose. A lot of malt. It's powerful, but we lost the aromatic richness of the nose. With a little opening, pepper notes.
    • Finish
      Intense on spices and cereals

Interesting nose, probably because of the mizunara oak but all in all too expensive. Pleasant dram.

  18. KayMeertens scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Pretty nice but I can't say I like it better than the All Malt which is only half the price. It does have a fuller body than that one though, with considerably more smoke. 84/85.
    • Nose
Apple, pear, caramel and lime. Whiffs of pepper and glue.
    • Taste
Pear, apple, caramel, lime, smoke, pepper and a little chewing gum.
    • Finish
Smoke, apple, caramel, pear, pepper, lime and liquorice.

compared with Taketsuru 12-year-old (2012) & Taketsure Pure Malt (2014)

    sample from Whiskybase
    • Nose
vanilla, some wax, orange, nuts, exotic fruits, citrus, caramel and butter
    • Taste
citrus - lemon, orange, fudge, oily, olives and spices - white pepper
    • Finish
drying with soft spices, fudge, citrus, chocolate, some corn (bourbon), roasted barley and coffee

  20. markjedi1 scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

    The nose and finish
were okayish, but the palate was very surprising. Therefore I am giving it the
same score as the NAS bottling, which gave me the same pleasure at the least.
    • Nose
      The nose is much
softer than the NAS bottling, with more fruit and a lot of grassy notes, but
less expressive. Besides oranges and grapefruit I also get some tropical
fruits. A twig of eucalyptus keeps it fresh. Some flowers and mild spices too. Needs quite some handwarmth to open op. Much dryer as
well. What is this? I smell peat!
    • Taste
      On the palate it is
sweet and fresh, but with a lot of oak. Immediately drying and rather peaty! I had not expected this. Vanilla and white fruit,
besides the citrus. Some earth and lots of spices. Liquorices, camomile tea, peat and even a pinch of
salt. This is becoming pretty interesting on the palate. The longer you leave
it, the more the peat comes out.
    • Finish
      The long finish is
dry, spicy and a touch bitter.

A neutral whisky, no surprise but we do not appreciate his wisdom.
