An interesting recipe with an interesting result. The restraint smoke is much to my liking, but the palate has some off-notes, while the finish is too short.
    • Nose
Soft notes of sauerkraut, which is reminiscent of young ex-bourbon matured Ledaig, but less intense of course. A hint of vegetal peat, and very mellow wood smoke. Vanilla and porridge, as well as citrus (lemon) and stone (peach) fruits. Quite appealing.
    • Taste
Soft smoke with the lightest touch of peat, but also a definitive fruitiness. Sweet grapes and some sugary breakfast cereal. Ends less pleasant. Burned plastic?

  4. Official tasting note

For the elaboration of BM Notes Fumées we use our main blend of imported whiskey which, although showing 3 years on the certificate, must actually flirt with the 5 or 6 years of average age. We then refine it in our cellar in the heart of Occitania for a period of 12 to 16 months in barrels that previously contained the most prestigious Gascon spirits. We then add 2 whiskeys with smoky notes, in a proportion of 20%, according to a distribution allowing us to achieve the desired aromatic balance. Once the blend is complete, the whiskey rests for several weeks in a 3rd or 4th filling cask, while the combination of these different whiskeys creates a harmonious whole.
    • Nose
On the nose, mineral, first medicinal notes, barley grain and smoke. Then we discover floral notes, dried fruits and wood.
    • Taste
On the palate, first floral-fruity which carries smoky notes towards toast and malt. Then vanilla, citrus, leather and subtle herbal notes.
    • Finish
The finish is rich, tasty with a hint of Mocca.

an assembly of Scottish blends with a declination smoke!
on the nose, simple, white fruits, malt, a little vanilla, spices, sugar!
on the palate, light appearance of sweet smoke, sweetness, still this creamy and sweet sensation, otherwise, malt, spices rather full-bodied and back almond
in finishing, that's where it's fishing, it's short and a bit astringent; and the alcoholic sensation is quite important.
the smoke sensation in the mouth is the best memory.

A very enjoyable dram indeed. Light, fruity, floral, slightly smoky (but in an unusual way) and with an undeniable wine-based-distillate-cask influence. I like what they’re doing! Buying good base whisky in Scotland and further maturing them in France in French casks. They can’t call it Scotch anymore, but who cares if it’s tasty!

    80/100
