The Portfassfinish fits here quite well and does not look set. After a great nose, beautiful intense aromas in the mouth, unfortunately follows a disappointing after-sound, of which I would have hoped for the previously shown flavors more. So just take the next sip quickly ;-)
    • Nose
the nose is fully loaded and really heavy or dense, boiled cherries, really sweet and fruity, to incredibly spicy, some pepper, the oak is present, in addition to a few roasted coffee beans, caramel, behind the spice hides creamy milk chocolate, now have I also have some sour raspberry, leathery, almost slightly iodine, softwood, brings some freshness with it
    • Taste
here it goes on sweet and fruity, something tingles on the tongue, slightly peppery, yes rather raspberry here, sweetened, beautiful intense, then the oak comes through, becoming dry, blends well with the distinct fruit sweetness, slightly nutty, even creamy The chocolate is above everything like a thin coating
    • Finish
in the aftermath unfortunately rather restrained, still quite dry from the oak, the fruit gives only a short stint on the palate, pity but then quite quickly over, as if I had rinsed after a minute with water

wouldn’t have thought this was three and a half decades old, if I had this
tasted blind. Its tasty, mildly complex and dangerously easy-drinking for 50%
ABV. Good balanced between all sides of the taste spectrum as well. Decent, but
nothing I’d dish out over 200€ for.
    • Nose
fruits aplenty, with apple sauce, pears, watered strawberries, and raspberries.
Then it turns sweeter, more bourbony – caramel, vanilla, and a big dose of oak
spice. Baileys! Milk chocolate, mocha ice cream, and plum Eau de vie.
    • Taste
interplay between spicy, sour and sweet. The oak is immediately assertive, but
only in a complementary way. The initial bourbon maturation was not all that
strong I reckon – hence the finishing in a (fresh?) port cask. With a drop
of water: more of the same. A little thin perhaps? Rose water and tannic strawberry
    • Finish
Like the palate – alternating sweetness and slightly tannic edges.  A little drying and full of mild oak spice.

With its interplay of spicy gingerbread, cloves and plum jam, the Glenrothes 1980-2016 by Malts of Scotland fits perfectly into the pre-Christmas season. A presentation of this 36-year-old single malts can be found on my blog: http://whiskyclub-fs.de/2016/12/16/whisky-vorstellung-glenrothes-1980-2016-port-cask-finish-malts-of- scotland-498-vol /
