While the finish is slightly below par, this bottling could be used by a beginner to experience an old-school sherry vibe. It's not revolutionary for a seasoned drinker, but it's valuable for a newcomer.

    Price-performance ratio: Average-good, Average.
Would I buy it again?: I wouldn't specifically look for it, a sherry lover might want it.
    • Nose
      86 86
Light marzipan, plenty of dried red plums. Dried red raisins. A little musty. Milk chocolate. A bit of dulce de leche and toffee. A little celery powder. Dried red fruit reduction. A little toasted almonds. Hazelnut spread. A classic, old-school but delightful sherry nose. Caramel praline. A little cumin. Maybe even whole cumin seeds. Not the most atypical whisky in the world, but deep and smooth enough.
    • Taste
      85 85
On the palate, a sweetness that's somewhere between medium and low. A spicier palate than the nose. Notes of oak spices like powdered sugar, black pepper, and cinnamon are noticeable. Whole cumin and a hint of celery powder are present in the background. Almond paste is prominent. Caramelized roasted hazelnut praline. A bit of milk chocolate. There's a bitterness that's not particularly enjoyable, but it doesn't create a major flaw. A slightly herbal undertone, like lemon balm. Cocoa. Custard over time. Not bad, classic and decent.
    • Finish
      84 84
Custard and cinnamon, plenty of black pepper. A noticeable but not overpowering tannin. Fresh red plum and sweet cherry juice. A touch of tonka bean. Mild stone fruit. Overbrewed black tea. That herbal side with burnt rosemary. This part isn't as complex and full as the rest. Oh well.
