  1. Sandor scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

Balance comments: the rating for this factor is the result of low degree of complexity and very high degree of balance.
In a nutshell, this whisky is about distillery character, not wood. Proof of the long period of maturation however is to be found by experiencing the whisky 's balance, which I consider almost perfect. If you are looking for mature, naked yet perfectly balanced Ardbeg, this could be your best bet.
    • Nose
At first instance, a thick layer of sweetened peatsmoke. After a couple a minutes in the glass, there is no change in terms of added complexity. The peatsmoke - sweet balance is about perfect and it reminds me quite a bit of the old Ardbeg 17. Some very attractive "dunnage warehouse earthiness".
    • Taste
On arrival smokey and a little spicy, then becomes more tempered while the soft, whipped cream and some hints of hay gain momentum. The peatsmoke is overly present yet very gentle and there's perfect interplay with the sweetness.
    • Finish
Long. No development, but the refined and rewarding sweetened peatsmoke taste remains.
