Important information about the 08/2016 vs. 08/2017

    **Teeling 24 Year-Old Single Malt – 2016 & 2017 Release clarification**

There has been a few queries about whether it was the 2016 or 2017 release of Teeling 24 Year-Old that recently won the world’s Best Single Malt at the World Whisky Awards. Both releases are from exactly the same vatting with the whisky being distilled in 1991 and matured in Bourbon casks before being further matured in Sauterne sweet wine barrels. These casks were then vatted together and split into two batches, half for the 2016 release and half for the 2017 release. The whisky entered into the awards came from this vatting and was from the tasting stock rather than being from a particular release. This explains why all the whisky is bottled as 24 year-old despite the 2017 release being bottled a year later. 2016 release was the stock image used when the award was first announced but both releases are the same fantastic whisky.

For the first time, I get a very strong durian fruit flavor in a Scotch whisky.
    • Nose
      91 91
Fresh cut fruits on a metal tray with ice, sugar glazed pineapple, sugar-coated corn flakes, candied roasted almond, pu-erh tea. After a sip, dry sauna wood with spilled bourbon. The bourbon note is noticeable stronger after sips.

Yellow fruits bomb! First is the pineapple, ripe banana, mango, and it keep on becoming sweeter yellow fruits. And at the end, the king of fruits - Durian! Definitely the first time for me to get durian in a Scotch whisky! Some really delicate smoke and light lapsang tea dryness behind.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium, with durian sweetness and slight bitterness with pineapple sharpness.

    Enthusiasm Nose: 5/5 Palate: 4/5 Final: 3/5 Whisky n ° 1754
    • Nose
Exotic fruits that are intense but tend to fade. Almonds, caramel. We are in the Littlemill sphere. Golden malt, chocolate. Vanilla rising in strength. Evocation of a bourbon.
    • Taste
In the mouth, sweet, creamy, greedy, on the fruits. Very just spicy and juicy. But I admit that I waited a bit more complexity.
    • Finish
The fruits are more supported in the final, but on the other hand it lacks impact, become almost too wise. The opening is good for him.

N- Snacking on a tropical fruit platter with icing sugar next to a Diesel pump station. Big oak extract that integrated so well with the sweet fruit liquid resulted this unique chains of aromas. Malty, popcorn with chocolate caramel, orange marmalade with fruit peels, dragon fruit syrup, cut white onion with savoury sweetness and lastly a tea-ish tannin. Distinctive, bright, solid and highly evolving, can't take my nose away from this beauty, pretty much ticks on all boxes, a winning aroma for sure. (96/24)

P- Creme brulee, orange, then nice creamy soursop with underlying tannin. Some nice phenol smokes to go with it, followed by the chewy strong black tea. (91/22)

F- Medium, nose dive after all the hypes, oak-y sweet, orange smokes, still feel elegant and the finesse. But surprisingly lacking and wee shallow. (87/21)

    B/B- 89/22

    Cereal- 2, Fruity- 4, Floral- 1, Peaty- 0, Feinty- 1, Woody- 4, Winery- 2, Spicy- 2

Perhaps a 89 pointer now. 3 months later after oxidised. It has lost its charm of being refreshing on the finishing.
    • Nose
      91 91
Nose is still magnificent. Similar notes as before however, this time with added charred brown sugar. Reduced sugar in a pan.
    • Taste
      89 89
Same as before, minus the pistachio sweet nutty ness. Add on some quakers oatmeal.
    • Finish
      86 86
No more tropical sun basking. Damp end, medium finishing. Maybe sitting under a tent in a rainforest while it's pouring outside.

Rated 90 freshly opened bottle. 3 months ago ish
    • Nose
      93 93
Pineapple, honey, lemon, ripen banana on the verge of being fully brown, jackfruits that have been left outside for over 2 hours. Some mango perhaps. Overall a fruit punch.
    • Taste
      88 88
Delicious scrumptious fruit bowl. Orange pudding that has been flambé. Slightly woody from the oak, light milky chocolate. Nutty, a slight bit, pistachio to be exact.
    • Finish
      90 90
Refreshing feels of basking under the tropical sun not by the beach but rather by a rainforest under the shade.
      Long long finish.

Extremely fruity, huge on white fruits like peach, grape, apricot. Lots of mango as well. Lovely fruity treat on the nose. Hints of dried nutmeg, with some butter cookies, and more fruit sweetness. Lots of spices appear after a sip.
    • Taste

Mouthwatering, lots of fruit sweetness. The sweetness reminds me of Sugus (fruit flavored chewy candy). Quite jammy.
    • Finish
      86 86
Long, with some orange peel, lemony. Biscuity. Pretty fruity as well.

    • Nose
Creamy, peaty and farmy, what a surprise! Not your typical Irish whisky, not fruity at all! Robust malts and bread, very similar to old Irish whisky in the 60s.
    • Taste
QUite light and mellow, sweet and floral malty barley.
    • Finish
Medium, drying and fresh, very herbal.
