Whisky Reviews for Glendronach 1995

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.77 points

Boringly good. Absolutely recommended! Elegantly complex on the nose, with oscillating fruitiness and tertiary sensations of spices.
    • Nose
At first, quite savory and spicy for a PX cask.
Myriads of cooking spices like black pepper, coriander, caraway, and other indistinct flavors. Then, after about 15-20 minutes, the sweeter fruit aromas emerge. Associations of dark berries, juicy cherries and poached peaches. Marzipan and some herbal honey.
    • Taste
Smooth arrival. Honeyed oak, menthol, a touch of dark chocolate and a whole lot of sherry goodness. An evanescent citrus backdrop, black tea leaves, and faint caramel.
    • Finish
Medium-long. Despite the lack of overt oakiness on the palate, tannins linger quite a while.

Nice color, but not particularly dark for an old Glendronach. Scent: pleasantly sweet (not as exaggerated as with some PX barrels), not complex, rather a little one-dimensional (that sometimes fits very well, dangerously "tasty"), intense sherry, raisins, rum, honey, no off-notes, opens something with water. Don't take too much water. Medium to long finish. Considering the price I paid of 189 euros (recently from my local dealer) a good buy. With 200 to 220 euros he would be very well paid. Given my benchmark, I wouldn't spend more. (For me, the Glendronach Allardice 18 up to and including 2018, i.e. still from Billy Walker, is the absolute benchmark against which every whisky has to be measured.)

So ... Conclusion ... hats off!
    • Nose
      Colour:
      Dark amber

      Nose:
My first impression. Ne track of smoke and ripe, set dried fruits.
Some leather, a nuance balsamic vinegar and pickled blackberries. Sweet maltiness and dark sour cherries. With some time in the glass comes furniture polish and apple cider vinegar. Rancid butter, more maggi and raisins. I still find marzipan to find out. He has such a fine cognac note with.
      Very horny, mature nose!
    • Taste
Sparkling, sweet start. Sugared raisins. Sweet figs. Oranges, some leather and roasted almonds. Some bitterness and brings a slightly dry mouthfeel. A slight spice sharpness joins in addition. Nevertheless, the taste is very varied. Predominantly sweet and creamy.
The second sip more plum, yeast dough and a little cinnamon. A subtle artificial touch is added.
I can not describe in the beginning how good the taste tastes good. A total taste-change game. Very cool.
    • Finish
Long and syrupy. Sweet and set. Slight bitterness. In the end honey sticks to the cheeks.
