  1. St. Pauli Plus scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Raw cask is a powerful name for powerful whiskies. This is not an exception. The risk that you run when bottling raw casks is that the rawness isn't refined and rather harsh. That's something I encountered in this dram.

The complexity that one gets from Cragganmore (especially the old ones) is mostly absent. It's rather a bit austere.
    • Nose
      81 81
The nose is rather nervous, focusing on wood, spice, a little citrus and grape pips. With water, a bit more on lemon, a bit of metal, and an increasing amount of white and yellow stone fruit. Also some cereal. That's better, although it's still a little closed and rather tannic.
    • Taste
      79 79
Full-bodied, sweet but also a bit hot and spicy from the alcohol. That's a bit too much. With quite some water it is acceptable, but somehow a little artificially fruity (tinned lychee, the candied cherry they use on pie toppings), quite some tannic ginger and grape pip, lemon juice and cereal bar. There is also a slight bitter medicinal (talcum) note.
    • Finish
      82 82
Moderate, still a bit sweet but also getting dry on ginger, and chilli pepper. Further, wood, lemon, white grape, cake and aspirin.
