This is some good stuff. I have also tried a couple of private sherry casks both peated and unpeated. And, I must say, Grythyttan is a cracker of a whisky, one of the finest in Sweden in my opinion. A bit more maturation and it will be outstanding.
Rating interval 84-88
Intense sherry spices on the nose, caramel and toffee. Slightly smoked with some Swedish salt licorice and bitter orange. Coffee? Maybe?
Intense arrival, rich and plenty with spices with lemon pepper in particular. A bit rough on the development, the youth is obvious. The palate starts to disintegrate a bit but comes together fine at the front with white pepper, black pepper, lemon juice and leather.
The finish starts with sour-bitter lemon, smoke, leather and licorice but also mixed herbs. The leather stays on the palate for quite a while with some dry mouthfeel.
