The nose is quite pleasant in basic terms it smells like a sweet syrup. like a syrup cake if you will?

This is the trouble I find with bourbon generally it is too sweet, almost sickly at this strength and there is always a woody aftertaste, I think sometimes bourbon at high strengths like this mask the fact that the end product is pretty basic, apologies to bourbon fans.
If you add a little water this flattens out considerably and becomes less aggressive but just a little mundane to be honest.

I think whiskey generally is way overpriced but £400 for a 6 year bourbon is a liberty.

This is a £50 bottle end of, the quality to price ratio is very poor in my opinion but I am not a fan of bourbon so please bear this in mind.
I like the nose, it is very nice but the palate is ordinary,

N: Corny with fruits, sherried fruits.
T: This is like a big oloroso monster meets Balcones Blue Corn WB.
F: So much corn, oily corn.
C: Not long ago, the Handy carried extraordinary complexity. This year it’s dominated by corn, still with big notes but lacking the complexity of those heady days - 2011 being a great example WB. Still a great rye whiskey but truly over priced, and yet the buyers keep buying. Blog
