A dream for me, the price is of course beyond good and evil ....
    • Nose
Great aroma, orange with peel, apricot, nice sweet tobacco, salt, great dark toffee, fresh red apple, hints of iodine from Laphi, full of brown honey, gummy bears, white chocolate, some fresh leather and hazelnut, passion fruit, I could tune for hours sniff
    • Taste
Dry algae, blood orange, orange bitters, cold campfire, berry bushes with soil, wild garlic and clove, honey with herbs, dark chocolate, beautiful leather, bread crust, red apple, apricot jellies, dark malt
    • Finish
Long, dry-sweet, apricot, the smoke, malt and light salt will stay in for minutes, reminding you of something rustic oak and clove

The price is ridiculous so I am focussing on the malt:

Great malt no doubt and it is complex and also well balanced so I had a lot of fun to drink it.
    • Nose
apple/pear with a bit of passionfruit, honey and malt. The smoke is very decent as well as a bit of citrus and the alcohol is implemented perfectly. You can smell this dram for hours, great!
    • Taste
The mouth offers a malt & fruit game which makes a lot of fun. Again the alcohol is perfectly implemented. A bit surprising that the smoke is only barely showing up.
    • Finish
The smoke and malty hint remains for minutes and leaves a smile on my face. Yes I was expecting a lot but it is also delivering a lot backwards.

Light peat smoke, as expected, with a lovely fruity backdrop. Lots of fresh fruits, menthol, fresh barley and very malty. A lot sweeter after the first sip, and more liquorice.
    • Taste
      87 87
Big and oily arrival, sweet at first, with a smoky background. Nutmeg, roasted almond, burnt wood, liquorice.
    • Finish
      88 88
Full and long, with hints of almond, lemonade, oranges, and slight orange peel bitterness.

10000 bottles = limited edition! Isn’t everything limited? Maybe not atoms.
N: Goes very well with the tablet-like [vg] sticky toffee pudding. The dryness lifts, becoming more youthful after 10 minutes. I got distracted with initial top notes of dried nettles, violets, honeysuckle and fusca, but actually, dried basil, thyme and sticky lavender with bitter sour lemon captures the overall aroma better.
T: With slowly softened smoke, the malt rings true with sweet vegetal herbal floral action continuing forth.
F: Bitter oaky herbal, those 30 years of maturation never crushing the barley despite a metallic touch.
C: I’m enjoying this tasting so much I forgot to write a conclusion or give this a score. It would have been high I’m certain.

very seldom that I even buy samples of such expensive whiskies, so let´´s take time:
even at this age it´s obvious hat this is laphroiag. no other whisky has this specific medicinal DNA.
Let me advice you to give this dram a lot of time. it reaaly deserves it. if you rush this dram you get a slightly more developed version of the 15yo (I´m a big fan of that one, mind you) . we got a very rounded smoky nose with first class liquorice, just a bit of tar, lots of lemon juice, grapefruit, olives and brine. has a bit of a 30yo Caol Ila which can only mean it´s a very good dram. hints of linseed oil and the mildest oak.
it´s also got a slightly herbal edge. Vermouth?
you can nose this stuff for hours!

neat, there is no doubt it´s not as good as the nose suggests. not because it´s lacking complexity but it´s just too sharp to deliver the flavours. so let´s add a drop of water. i hope it´s a swimmer. ok, added just a drop and the nose develops even more. what about the palate? well, to be honest, the strong side is not the palate. not that it´s bad whisky, lol, no, not at all but I would have NEVER guessed it was 30 years of age. it´´s like an 18 year old Laphroaig with some bitter herbs in it. too bitter for my palate, at least today. but again, it´s still good stuff.

only slightly bitter with citrus and salt
