If you have the following in mind in your head as follows: 'Laphroaig, 30 years, 50%, that can actually be nothing more than a bang', you will feel more than confirmed after the tasting.
    An absolute dream.
    • Nose
      94 94
At first extremely reserved, after just a few moments, a fruit basket appears in the glass filled with peaches, apricots, plums and red apples. Very subtle smoke, which you could easily think of as an "aroma" of old wooden floorboards. Honey and brown sugar, old leather, dry tobacco leaves. A short trip to the spice rack gives you a mixture of nutmeg, ginger powder and grated cloves. A nose that rests in itself and has a lot to tell.
    • Taste
      95 95
Creamy and full of anticipation, which feels soft and velvety on the tongue despite an alcohol strength of 53.5%. Dry wood, very mild smoke, in which the peat used can hardly be made out. Orange jam, almonds, hazelnuts, dark chocolate. While the nose was dominated by fresh fruits, the dried counterparts dominated the aroma. Leather and tobacco, dry deciduous forest floor, wood, which ensures a pleasant dryness. Dark chocolate, freshly roasted espresso.
    • Finish
      94 94
Long and just imperceptibly drier. The fruity aromas fade over time, leather, dry wood and dark chocolate take the lead. It stays there for a long, long time. If you think: it's over now, he'll do another round.

A dream for me, the price is of course beyond good and evil ....
    • Nose
Great aroma, orange with peel, apricot, nice sweet tobacco, salt, great dark toffee, fresh red apple, hints of iodine from Laphi, full of brown honey, gummy bears, white chocolate, some fresh leather and hazelnut, passion fruit, I could tune for hours sniff
    • Taste
Dry algae, blood orange, orange bitters, cold campfire, berry bushes with soil, wild garlic and clove, honey with herbs, dark chocolate, beautiful leather, bread crust, red apple, apricot jellies, dark malt
    • Finish
Long, dry-sweet, apricot, the smoke, malt and light salt will stay in for minutes, reminding you of something rustic oak and clove

Peat and smoke of course, apricot, iodine, wine gum, leather, hazelnutcreme, peeld apples
    • Taste

Lovely whisky, blood orange with some orange cest, slight bitter, honey, herbs, fat on the lips, leather, tobacko, red apples, orange and apricot liqour
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, orange cest, slight bitter, some oak, spice and pepper

  4. Segens scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

The price is ridiculous so I am focussing on the malt:

Great malt no doubt and it is complex and also well balanced so I had a lot of fun to drink it.
    • Nose
apple/pear with a bit of passionfruit, honey and malt. The smoke is very decent as well as a bit of citrus and the alcohol is implemented perfectly. You can smell this dram for hours, great!
    • Taste
The mouth offers a malt & fruit game which makes a lot of fun. Again the alcohol is perfectly implemented. A bit surprising that the smoke is only barely showing up.
    • Finish
The smoke and malty hint remains for minutes and leaves a smile on my face. Yes I was expecting a lot but it is also delivering a lot backwards.

      9 // 8.5

Mint, herbal earth, incredibly aromatic (and potent). Still smoky, but nowhere near overwhelming. // Bourbony, sweet and smooth, but still with that mint and smoke.
    • Taste
      95 95
      9.5 // 8.5

Is it "worth" the money? Heck no. Is it a helluva lot more interesting AND balanced than a lot of old whiskies? YES. Waxed pear; really full body, chewy, oily, fatty, but SWEET malt; some tropical fruits flash in the maintaste; aftertaste is very slightly (but welcome) maritime peat.
    • Finish
      90 90
      9 // 9

A bit strong, but gods, it goes forever. Very peaty. // Creamy and pleasant.

Day 7 of Lockdown - 24th March - Drove down to Bukit Bintang yesterday for a meeting. Two road blocks along the way. For the first time, I need a company letter to justify my travel to continue the journey. All this for the effort to contained the pandemic. No complaint.

N- Barley lingers. Thick smoggy scents of overripe soursop. Firm at spine with broad rusty and copper notes. Little wild flowers, pleasing crushed mint leaf, some nut and iodine joins the party, with waves of spicy strength awaiting at the shoreline. (90/22)

P- Well mature, classy, gentle. Perfect integration of peat and oak to share the limelight. Charred citrus peel and nuts skin indicating the layer of oil with soft bitterness and olive brine. Also the waxy honey that never bad to attains. (94/23)

F- Long. Simply classy and aged gracefully. Not the usual Lap that always hit the ground hard, they should make more of this style, perhaps. (94/23)

    B/B- 95/23

Keep at 88 first. Last time I tried, I know it was much higher than this but I had not taken any notes then nor written the point based calculation.

88 is based on a 90% empty bottle.
Once I open my own bottle, I can give a proper review it deserves.
