  1. Syleo scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

An exciting port malt that cannot deny its youth and has not yet shaken off one or the other troublesome leg notes. Still attractive and tasty for me.
    • Nose
      83 83
Held against the light, the typical rosy shimmer of the port barrel shines through in the copper brown of the young Aultmore. A winy avalanche of fruit immediately falls over the nose: overripe raspberries, pickled cherries, apricots, blackberries, a few currants with a lot of sugar and a little lemongrass and a pickled pineapple slice in the China restaurant. Fruit sweetness and fruit acidity balance each other out. Some dried rose petals and lavender lead into a subtle spice, anise and herb sweets in a summer fir forest, fresh hay, a granola bar with honey and a cup of chamomile tea on the side. Finally, the fruity-fresh overtones also release a creamy sweetness, custard with caramel syrup and - a little unexpected - also whole grain toast and cold gravy with plenty of red wine, boiled tomatoes and a dash of vinegar.
    • Taste
      86 86
The creamy impression continues on the palate, but always accompanied by the berries and mixed fruit salad, buttercups and chamomile. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, despite the good 55 percent hardly anything burns here. Similar to the nose, the fruity impressions in the tasting change gradually as you circle around the tongue to earthy but no less sweet tones, marzipan breads, sand cake with lemon icing and almond cereal bars with hints of anise and resin, but without becoming completely bitter. At the very end, is that a hint of a bad note of chlorine?
    • Finish
      80 80
Hazelnut macaroons, lemon sand cake, cocoa and marzipan also complete the unfortunately short overall finish, the berry cocktail mixes with a reminder of the wine-emphasized gravy, lilac and orange peel.
