  1. WillemvdK scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

Nose: fresh engine oil, mustard, vinegar, ginger, orange, walnut and cigar box.
Mouth: good sweet entry, syrupy mouthfeel. Fruity than the nose. A lot of citrus, with peel (bitter). Finish has a lot of wood, is pretty bitter. This is also reflected in the engine oil. Little old garage, dusty and dirty.

Thanks to the Virtual Blind Tasting 10 of the Whisky Forum!

    My guess was a Glendronach with some Edradour @ 57.5% @ 10-yo.
    I love these Edradour bottlings.
Sample #2 of the HWF VBT 2018.
    • Nose
      88 88
Ripe red fruit, caramel, dark chocolate, some coffee powder, some mint, earth, oak
    • Taste
      88 88
Ripe re fruit, dark sugar, mint oily chocolate, some coffee notes
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long, slightly bitter, slightly drying. The dark sugar coated dark chocolate fades slowly, some mint notes come in waves

    Comment:
I used to be totally wild about this style. Slowly but surely this becomes less. The sherry happening is predominant.
    • Nose
      80 80
      Nose:
Oops, that is clearly a wine finish. Difficult nose. I think this is not a sherry finish, but another thick fortified wine. Marsala or something like that. It is a bit chewy, but there is a dirty smell. Furthermore, there is some raisins and a sweet that I can not bring home.
    • Taste
      84 84
      Taste:
Unprecedented on the wine. In terms of taste, you would think again of A-class Oloroso barrels. You hardly taste any more because of the thick taste of the wine. It gets a bit bitter at the end. For the rest the usual suspects: currants, shoe polish and leather.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Finish:
Medium-long in length. Furthermore, it is a proper sherry bomb. The finish is somewhat dry and slightly wry. But otherwise it is not unpleasant.

    • Nose
Lot's of forest fruits - blackberries and blueberries, orange, citrus and oily - olive oil.
    • Taste
A bit sharp due to the high ABV with orange - orange peel, candied ginger and strawberries.
    • Finish
Bitter fruits, some dark chocolate, citrus, spices, again the sweet strawberries, a bit drying and vanilla.

    • Nose
lychee, weeig, zoethout, honing, tijm, hooi, karamel, leer?
    • Taste
peper, lychee, ananas, bittere nasmaak, chocolade, basterdsuiker

Dutch whisky forum blind tasting #10 - second sample.
A pleasing sherried whisky, a little leather but mainly spicy with coffee and cocoa style bitters, instead of (for me personally) less appealing wood bitters. Fruitiness is in the background.
    • Nose
      85 85
Firm (oloroso) sherry influences, leather with a tip of shoe polish, savory, spicy, laurel, parsely, broth. With water it turns more nutty (salted peanuts) and fruity: raisins, plums and chocolate, but also black tea, greasy and creamy.
    • Taste
      86 86
Full bodied, a whisky to be chewing on, high alcohol, sherry sweetness, figs, raisins, very dark chocolate, cocoa bitters, espresso, overbrewed black tea, nutmeg and black pepper.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, but considering the fullness of the body it could have been longer: leather, a sweet sherry note, black liquorice with a hefty coffee bitterness.

    Blind tasting HWF-VBT 10 Sample 2

    Nose:
Immediately after pouring sharply in the nose, high in the alcohol.
Sherry, dark red fruit, raisins, candy

    Taste:
Full sherry, greasy, raisins, high in the alcohol, salt.
    Furthermore, a little flat.

    Finish:
Show long and warm with sherry

    ABV:
    58%

    Score:
    85

I really like these kind of whisky's, full-bodied, pungy, very nice!
    • Nose
      88 88
Clearly a lot of sherrycask influence: Fruity, raisins, prunes, some leather, spicy, some cinnamon. Very full 'nose', intense as well. Alcohol very prominent.
Later on the nose gets a little more sweet, more to the direction of a fruitcake, also some earthy notes appear to the front.
    • Taste
      88 88
Pungent and warming, Alcohol very prominent in the body as well. Red fruits, prunes again, a lot of pure, bitter chocolate now, some coffee. Intense and full-bodied taste. Some spiciness again in the form of cinnamon.
Along the way, this whisky get more quiet, but it certainly keeps its full taste.
    • Finish
      87 87
Still pungent and warming, a lot of (bitter) chocolate again, prunes, still some cinnamon and coffee. Long finish, it punges the tongue for a very long time afterwards.
In the finish as well it is getting more quiet along the way, and better.
Later on some more fruits arrive, again some light red fruit, cherry's.

  10. Willum scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

At the first sip, I expected that it would be too rough and dry for me; in this dram, however, that despite the intense taste, however, remains out and that's nice.
    • Nose
      86 86
Apricot, ginger, pepper, tobacco, and some herbs.
When smelling also immediately a strong stimulus of alcohol.
    • Taste
      85 85
Spicy sweet, orange, pepper, peppermint, milk chocolate, wood.
From the first nip an intense taste that never gets sharp. With some water a little more fussy.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium to long with a combination of sweet and pepper.
