I confess, my expectations were low, but this one surpassed them easily. The ‘black cask’ did its work with the delivery of quasi-tropical fruit and loads of sweetness. Around 30 EUR. A nice go-to-whiskey that pleases everybody.
    • Nose
Well, the nose certainly is very clean, honeysweet and very fruity. This is almost a rum! Loads of vanilla, overripe banana, hints of hazelnut paste. Some juicy pears and a lot of mandarin hide behind this. Pretty good, in fact!
    • Taste
The arrival, however, is somewhat weak. Again lots of vanilla and the same fruit as on the nose, supported by some nutmeg and cinnamon. The oak rears its head and offers a subtle trace of woodsmoke. It becomes more creamy from the second sip forward. This is better than expected.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long on spices and toffee, while the oak has the final say with its nutmeg and pepper.

  2. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Delicious thing, I like, and priced fairly with 24 €. If I had shelf space surplus, there would instantly be a vial inside.
(Against the previously tasted Jameson Black Barrel for 29 € the clearly superior winner.)
    • Nose
      Official color!
The nose starts dusty-dry, but after a few minutes it becomes open and fruity-sweet, intense strawberry jam, with brown sugar, a sweetish hay and sawdust
    • Taste
sweet and creamy, honey, brown sugar, a slight hint of ricola, an idea dry apricots ... longer in the mouth: dark chocolate, slightly spicy
    • Finish
medium long, dark chocolate, latte, some pepper

After the quite appealing nose a somewhat disappointing development. Not just a top product, just a blend more on the market.
    • Nose
Already when uncorking penetrate a vanilla / caramel. Sniffing on the glass results in a fine, balanced mixture of a fruit cocktail (strawberries, pears, seasoned with a little peppermint) and of course still vanilla / caramel.
    • Taste
On the tongue spreads a spiciness, which slides into a bitterness, even alcoholic is herauszuschmecken.
    • Finish
And these disturbing aspects are not overcome in the departure, but have their share and the well-sounding ingredients, which could be determined already with the nose. But in addition, there are still some elements that tend to "burned".

  4. Archer scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

The nose is reminiscent of many other Irishmen, who is not a single pot still. On the tongue it shows a harmonious character.
    • Nose
At the beginning a strong wave of hay and grass notes. After a while fresh wood, vanilla, some honey. Coffee beans. Also bananas and peaches come with the time.
    • Taste
Mild and nice oily in the beginning. Fine fruity, honey sweet. On the tongue, the grassy notes hold back, it prevail apricots and peaches. Oak is in the foreground over time. Pepper and herbs are added.
    • Finish
Rather short, with oak and mild pepper.

A good blended, piacione and pimp, for this very reason extremely enjoyable
    • Nose
Floral scent, very sweet and creamy (grain!), Toasted notes (charred barrels?), Tobacco, honey brioche
    • Taste
On the palate it is very fresh and light, sweet and creamy, slightly spicy, with bitter and honeyy notes (chestnut honey?)
    • Finish
      Medium finale, honeydew

Side note: A VERY novice whiskey drinker, but well ... one learns while drinking.
    • Nose
      70 70
A relatively tart / fresh-fruity nose surrounded by a thin layer of alcohol that hugs the fruit.

If I let the whiskey breathe a little longer in the glass and then bring the glass to my nose more often, then I also get hints of vanilla and milk chocolate.

I still find it quite difficult to link specific characteristics to it, but for now I would say that the scent experience is a basket of freshly sour apples with apricots, with a little bit of vanilla sauce on top and milk chocolate flakes.
    • Taste
      83 83
Starts very fresh - the fruits of the nose are reflected in the first taste experience.

Longer in the mouth, I can taste the vanilla, milk chocolate and some latte macchiato more easily.

Swallowed I get a little spicy herbs / woods, some vanilla and milk chocolate again.
    • Finish
      80 80
The latte macchiato comes out a bit more from one finish than the other and doesn't seem to be consistent in the experience.

It does have a nice soft finish where especially the vanilla can be tasted, accompanied by the aforementioned sharp spices. Not a whole lot of spices, but just enough not to make the finish too dull-sweet.

When rating this bottle, you must take into account the price category it is in. In my opinion it is worth around 25 EUR, not more, so do not overpay. If you treat it as a budget option, it is OK.

This southernmost whiskey is my favourite in the 40% range, a taste like 46%, so a solid 83 points. However it reminds me more of a rum.

  10. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

Nice blend, has something of rum. Very much oak, some fruit, a little sweet, but unfortunately also some rubber.
