Smothered by PX, the Bunna character disappears somewhat. PX sweetness, sweat and chocholate with a hint of smoke is all that remains. It is muscular and yet charming in a way but not really mulitlayered.

Drops of water really help to push the score by 3 points. Still this dram is too overwhelmed by the PX for my taste. Less would be more.

Only 2-3 drops of water open it and push it in the dots scale up - yet I find him ambiguous and can not make friends with him
    • Nose
Immediately there is foul smoke in the glass, sulphurous sherry, behind it dusty Renekloden - with the addition of water appear dates and dried apricots, grilled fully ripe pineapple - the foul sulfur notes after a while in the glass
    • Taste
full bodied - chimney smoke, honey sweetness with subtle sherry touch and vanilla - in the mouth it is much more balanced than in the nose and presents a different character
    • Finish
Smoke stuck in the throat for a long time and lots of sweetness

Nose: Campfire smoke, orange, black tea, mint, wet, dried hay, dark chocolate Palate: Smoke, some sweetness reminiscent of cane sugar and light oiliness, white pepper and a touch of dried raisins Finish: Medium to long, a few almonds because of the bitterness. Were European oak barrels used? and dry. The smoke will remain present for a long time. For the issue price but at today's, aufgrufenen prices I would not put me.

[June, 2016]  I had this dram during a "Feis Ile 2016" tasting at Bonn.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state the typical modern "dirty" Bunna style.

  10. Malinois scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Big peated whisky, with also some decent level of smoke and a bit sweetness. Not bad but certainly not very complex

  11. Goethe scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Well, that's not my think. I like Bunnahabhain a lot from their usual malt expressions but somehow the Feis Ile editions are to fancy and underdeveloped concerning their charakter. The PX touch doesen't work very well here.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 6/10
    • Nose
Cold smoke. Some fermented fruits. Sweet hay. Raisins and some orange.
    • Taste
Smoke, citrus and hay, bitter and spicy.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Smoke, cow dung and bitter hay.

    This is
why I didn’t used to like peated Bunnahabhains. It is pretty one dimensional
peat. It doesn’t develop and it isn’t layered. Nice enough dram, but not
interesting enough. Because it is a Feis Ile bottling it is pretty pricy and
exclusive. But any Islay blended malt at cask strength will do just as fine.
    • Nose
      Farmy
peat notes. Lots of hay, peat. A lot of peat actually and not that much smoke.
Behind that some sweet vanilla. That’s it.
    • Taste
      A bit
more smoke in the mouth. Still those farmy notes. With peat. Still I can’t
detect any PX notes. Some vanilla from the bourbon cask are there.
    • Finish
      The
finish is quite pleasant and smoky. It is long, but doesn’t develop.

A nice Bunna in a line-up at a Bunnahabhain tasting.

    To smoky for my liking.
    • Nose
Smokey, with a whif sherry and floral notes we recognize in very young Bunnahabhains
    • Taste
Loads of peat and burnt grass with a sweetness to it
    • Finish
Smokey, warm with a sweet layer on top of it

I like it. A pleasant nose, in the taste with power, smoke and intense PX influence and then it gets woody. Back out he could not be so bitter for my taste.
    • Nose
sweet, creamy, chocolate, some caramel, lemon flavor, warm cocoa, the smoke is there, but not very intense, behind the creamy coat of chocolate, I find a fresh fruity note, sweet raspberries, slightly maritime and musty, the Bunnahabhain character is well hidden, but there, with time fresh and minty in the nose of quite high alcohol content, wet wood and wet tobacco are also present
    • Taste
ui, there's the smoke, nice dry and spicy, burning logs, then creamy sweet, with fruit, caramel, chocolate, slightly dry, bittersweet, short sulfur, floral notes, flowery, now it's getting drier
    • Finish
now almost bitter, espresso, the dry smoke is everywhere, grape skin, occasionally short creamy intermezzo of caramel, long-lasting, behind a really hefty portion of oak

This was quite a nice one. I liked how the nose was quite mellow and then there was a huge hit of peat on the palate. This one felt a bit too ‘Green’ (best way I can describe it) for me, but that’s just down to personal taste, still a solid dram.

Just like I like the Bunnahabhains the most. Beautifully peated from the bourbon barrel and only a small (s) influence of sherry. Accordingly, this whisky tastes nicely smoky with a really strong sherry sweetness, which is especially noticeable on the finish. Unfortunately, the whisky can not quite hide its "young" age. All in all good, but there are enough peat bunnahabhains of independent bottlers who are in no way inferior to this.

    Beautiful Bunnahabhain.
    Very complex and balanced.
    Great part
    • Nose
The nose at the first moment fat soil, clean cowshed, very fruity sweet raisins, orange peel and lemon. Sweet grapes, brown sugar and smoke.
    • Taste
Again very greasy and oily on the palate, lye pastry, again this smoke - exactly the opposite of nosing, not so sweet, but dry.
      The alcohol is great involved.
    • Finish
medium long, very nice interaction between sweet and dry.

A very nice filling with successful maturing in PX barrel. Beautiful Islay character. Not too young, not too old, just right.
    • Nose
The nose starts fruity and peaty / smoky. The smoke is subtle and mixes nicely with the smell of dried orange peel. In addition, there are still hints of fermented grapes. The approach of a sea breeze at the beginning passes quickly. The more maritime initial character turns into a more earthy nose. Take whole milk chocolate, raisins, cane sugar and a clear impact of the PX barrel.
    • Taste
Strong peat and smoke, raisins, cloves, allspice, black pepper and dark chocolate. Also on the tongue, the PX Nachreifung can be quickly recognized. Through the strong peat at the beginning of the whole mouth is lined with dark-fruity smoke. Very full and "dense" character, slightly oily.
    • Finish
Long finish, in which at the end grape-sweet smoke not only on the tongue, but still remains on the whole palate.
