    • Nose
Non-intrusive smoke, dark fruit compote, intense sherry and chocolate notes. Cocoa Bean and Orange.
    • Taste
Short but strong with sweet caramel. Slightly woody. sherry fruit. Tongue tingles a bit.
The Rsuch is well integrated and does not disturb.
    • Finish
Medium - Lng. warming. Salivation. Subtly peppery.
Minimal notes of sherry and coffee powder remain.

it was a HUGE chore to finish this. Especially when you have so many other good bottles. Not worth the price. Its immature, sharp and very dry.

The last half of my bottle was a struggle. It just became a chore to finish it, so I can open something new. I really love the flavor profile of Bowmore but I can’t quite shake how incredible their malts would be if they’d just bottle at a slightly higher proof.
    • Nose
      78 78
Soft smoke, milk chocolate, fudge, raisins, hard caramel, and cinnamon. For the most part, a typical sherry nose with mild peat smoke and a touch of tropical fruits. Hint of mango.
    • Taste
      76 76
Much like the nose, sherried and lightly smoky at first, but holding it in your mouth a few seconds allows the vegetal and medicinal notes to shine through. Fresh fruits towards the end of the palate. I’m liking the taste significantly more due to this added complexity.
    • Finish
      78 78
Big sherry sweetness in the form of chocolate covered raisins, vanilla, and toffee. This sweetness slowly fades with time into a lingering gentle smoke.

Nice Sherry Whisky combination. It has smoke, gentle peat, and a bit saltiness

In the taste the peat is more present and becomes a bit dry bitterish.

The finish is a bit sharp and dry, with as well peat as sherry notes

gave away 80% of the bottle, I don't want to drink - not my thing - the malt is ok in terms of quality, for some under 40 € it is even very cheap if you ignore the color and low alcohol content

I find it immature and put together - the combination of sherry and peat looks freshly mixed.
    • Nose
light smoke, gum, salt, seaweed, citrus, red fruits, licorice,
    • Taste
put on tastes fruity and inharmonious - I just don't like it at all

  10. irrerelevant scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

I wish it was more full-bodied, but still a nice malt, most gentle Islay malt I experienced
    • Nose
sherry and peat smoke, soft and gentle, spicy oak in the background, touch of methol, lavender, caramel
    • Taste
quite strong for 43%, dry, spicy, sherry and peatsmoke, gentle mouthfeel, red wine, dark roasted bread, pepper, a bit thin, lacks some substance
    • Finish
long, as dry as it gets, oaky, slightly sour

A typical Bowmore. The smoke and the partly fruity sherry harmonize very well with each other. A good all-day dram.
    • Nose
Fine discreet smoke with sherry. A pinch of salt and some peat press through the smoke. A hint of citrus fruits lies in the background. Light sweetness and a hint of vanilla.
    • Taste
This time the smoke is more intense. Briefly, the sherry flashes, then unfold slightly bitter wood flavors. It starts to biter in the mouth and sharpness develops. A pinch of salt and a little pepper follows. On the whole, the darkest is quite cool and dry, despite room temperature.
    • Finish
Again bitter wood and sharpness. Smoke and fruit are also present. The finish is medium to long and sounds slowly with a sharp note.

Smoke and flavors in balance. Very balanced with a much higher Sherrynote compared to the 12-year-old. But here, too, the alcohol note is too much in the foreground - 18.04.2014
    • Nose
Smoke, sherry, citrus, light sweetness, honey
    • Taste
Subtle smoke, sweet, slightly spicy, oak, above all a strong alcoholic note
    • Finish
      medium

Very similar to red wine in terms of mouthfeel and intense dryness. I would like to have a body that is a little fuller, but independent, mature and harmonious, smoke and sherry are harmoniously balanced, recommendation for smoke-compatible red wine lovers (Sample)
    • Nose
Very harmonious combination of smoke and sherry sweetness, soft and supple, behind it spicy oak, some menthol , something like lavender , caramel, nothing bothers, stings or pushes itself up
    • Taste
strong onset and for 43% vol, dry, spicy, with a lot of sherry and some of its sweetness, plus the smoke, again oak and some menthol, dry Dornfelder, dark toast, pepper, but a bit thin, I lack substance, especially out the back
    • Finish
Long, dry ( the tongue sticks to the palate) with sherry, smoke, oak, and menthol

  19. Robert Parker scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

Compared to the 12er he has much more to offer. More complex and a greater variety of flavors. Quite worth trying!
    • Nose
Rumrosines, dark grapes, plums, heavy dark fruits, vanilla, spices, slightly phenolic notes surround the malt
    • Taste
Smoke comes, oak, dark fruits mate with spices, salivation begins. round
    • Finish
dry, medium-long, smoke settles on the palate

Beautiful nose sherry and peat, cherry, turron. Grapes and dried fruits, no sugar at all, peat. A lot of tannins (too much?). Long final. Has a kirsch side.

This is a keeper.  I’m not sure it quite warrants its $70 price tag, but at least it’s memorable and very satisfying.  The addition of a few sparse drops of water brings out a bit more smoke and baked goods (pound cake).
    • Nose
Plums, prunes, and raisins, dark cocoa, leather, cedar wood, and peat smoke.  Superb nose!
    • Taste
Much like the nose.  Plums and raisins, dark chocolate/cocoa, leather, and a touch of pipe tobacco, sugary syrup, and light peat smoke.
    • Finish
Light smoke notes, both peat smoke and pipe tobacco smoke, and finally the sherry influence asserts itself with dark grape and some black cherry.

Bowmore has put together a very nice "complete package". I like the combination of sweetness and the beautifully integrated light smokiness. Even better, I would find it, if Bowmore would renounce the coloring (especially in the marketing under the name "Darkest" ...). Would buy him again.
    • Nose
fruity, grape aroma, orange, carnation reminds slightly of mulled wine, then comes a slight smokiness, nicely bound, light walnut note
    • Taste
wonderfully sweet with toffee, almost liqueur-like, sherry and wine notes, the smoke remains discreet and is beautifully integrated. Then a very slight hint of salt followed by oak.
    • Finish
long, warm and round, a slight saltiness remains

    Wonderfully sweet. You want more.
    • Nose
A lot of fruity sherry. Coal. Fire. Smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet caramel without end. Something oily. Wood and coffee. Not overly smoky. Gently.
    • Finish
Medium. Slightly smoky, sweet, very pleasant. Will be slightly drier on the finish.

    • Nose
Fragrantly smoky. Perfumy, very floral. Hessian. Sea air. Astonishingly fresh, delicious, appetising, complex.
    • Taste
Perfumy start. Hint of flowering currant. Nutty. Layers of dry, black treacle, maltiness.
    • Finish
Smooth. Polished stone. Hard, salty, liquorice.

Matured in an inspired combination of both bourbon and sherry casks, it`s the final three years spent in Oloroso sherry casks that gives Bowmore 15 Years Old `Darkest`, one of the most beautifully balanced Bowmores, the rich, deep colour reflected in its name, and its warming finish.

"The initial nosings encounter hints of sweet oak and honey rather than salt/brine; aeration stimulates the gentle sea salt component as the oak/fruit element recedes to the background. Palate entry is succulent, elegant and creamy sweet; at midpalate, tastes of cocoa, coffee bean, butterscotch and caramel blossom on the tongue. Finishes sweet, viscous and maple-like. Shows an extraordinary amount of grace and harmony." - Wine Enthusiast, 90-95 points (7/1/04)
