We had to keep this under wraps for a long time, but finally we can announce: MMM is born! MMM stand for Mark & Manny’s malts and is the follow up adventure of my Dutch Pal Imanuel (Manny) Dijk and myself, after the success fo the Save Lars Whisky bottlings. The plan is to release a maximum of 4 bottlings per year in a very limited number: only 50 bottles each. We have just lauched our inaugural release: a young but surprisingly good (doh!) Craigellachie 2008 at cask strength and matured on a sherry cask.
The nose is a whole panoply of summery fruit with peach and mango in the lead, with some sweet butter, tarte tatin, a mix of nuts and even a drop of cod oil hot on its heels. Some green grapes and a touch of liquorice as well as a handful of wood shavings turn this into a very pleasant nose.
The arrival is very round and creamy with a spicy kick to the teeth. I even get a hint of curry. Then an uprising of white fruit: apples and pears in a butterscotch jacket. The peach follows. Great balance, turning this into a soothing dram despite the high ABV.
The finish is deliciously long, sweet and spicy.
What a lovely Craigellachie. Nice depth for such a young animal. However, adding a few drops of water makes it very quaffable and elegant. It goes without saying that we wanted to make a grand entrance with our first release. I hope you will agree that we succeeded.
