  1. Totoro scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Classic Clynelish, and by far the best value-for-money indie bottling of this distillery that I've yet come across. Stunning texture. My only regret is not buying more than one bottle.

Postscript: Ha, glad to see that Serge agrees: http://whiskyfun.com/#210519

Very weighty and thick, with plasticine / playdough, beeswax / candle wax, as well as something slightly dirty and funky: it's Clynelish alright. Complementing these signature notes is a creamy sweetness, as in cake dough prepared with vanilla sugar. The barley comes through nicely; this is one hell of a malty dram. The oak, in contrast, is initially only notable for its absence. After the first sip, it comes out in the guise of ground coffee and wood smoke and integrates beautifully into the whole.

Lush, syrupy, creamy oily: what a lovely texture! And that at 43%.... Pure joy to just swish around in the mouth. Sweet start, shades then into slight acidity. Light summery fruits (white pears and green mango) vie for supremacy with gristy, grainy sweetness and, toward the death, honeyed, warm wood notes. I had expected a thoroughly average refill affair here, and am pretty much blown away by how this performs on the palate.

Some white tea tannins along with floral impressions (lilies, jasmine) and a subdued but clearly present salinity. Not as stunning as the palate, but still crazy good for such a budget bottling.
